so hostgator keeps taking my site down because of to much traffic......:angryfire

anyone know where i can get affordable hosting that can handle a lot of traffic that isn't going to burn a hole in my wallet AND not give me BS issues?

i'm only using my blogs to redirect traffic and hostgator still takes my sites down.

(sorry mods if this is in the wrong area)

Depends on what kind. Shared, VPS, SemiDedi, dedica*ted servers. Most likely youre going to need a VPS or Dedi because of the amount of traffic. And if you're getting alot of traffic with some load on your server, almost every single shared hosting provider/reseller will suspend you. (hostgator, ipage, bluehost, godaddy, fatcow, justhost, hostmonster, etc...)

    Some trusted hosts below
    Code:
    burst.net
    stablehost
    wiredtree
    theplanet

If you're looking for something like a real cheap unmanaged vps, then try lowendbox dot com / blog (has a bunch of reviews on them) or webhostingtalk dot com

I don't know why everyone likes HostGator so much-- I find their interface really confusing, and yes, they totally do that thing with the traffic.

I have a bunch of sites over on GoDaddy, they all work great. Also some hosted on Typepad (don't bother, their templates suck so much).

I've heard that dreamhost is awesome (it's also superior to hostgator in terms of features).
Their unlimited plan costs 107$ a year ($8.95 a month) but you can use this link:
    Code:
    http://www.pligg.com/dreamhost/
    And you'll get this plan for $60 a year ($5 a month).
There are other coupons I haven't tested:

You should search google for other coupons. I believe you get 2 week free trial with all coupons.

Oh, and one more tip: when using shared host, use caching plugins (for example totalcache for wordpress); they reduce processor usage. A lot of times people get banned because their sites are overloading servers with php and sql.

Although, its just My Suggestion! Nothing else :)

I had around 10k-20k unique visitors per day on the shared account and I never got my account shut down because of the traffic, I got it once because of high usage of the cpu, over 25%. I am now using an VPS from hostgator and I have to say it's the best I ever used. Go for the VPS, it's well worth the money.

i suggest finding the doteasy free hosting thread in this forums. You can get free unlimited hosting for a year. They will charge your card $1.95 though. I just got the server and it loads very quickly. If its not for you then definitely go with hostmonster. I promise I get more traffic and for some odd reason it handles it. Might even be better then my ********* server.

I can confirm this. I though I might not be illegible for this since I already have an account, but it turns out I just had to make a new one.
As for the $1.95 charge, I think it's fair because it prevents people from cheating the system, getting many accounts.

if you are having websites with high traffic and not able to pay for decent vps to handle it and think that affordable shared hosting can be good replacement then you are doing business from the wrong angle. The money you are losing in downtime can be the difference between reliable and affordable host ;)

no dedi needed if you have 6-10k visits a day try hostmonster. I dot want to recoment godaddy but one domain I have there on a linux not shared but hosting grid handles my site very well. Actually both are better that hostgator, even though most people here will disagree.

    regards,

    Al

I personally use namecheap.com and it has been working pretty good for me, and they have 24/7 live online support.

If you are getting more than 5k+ traffic per day, then you should consider their VPS which is about $30 per month.

I was using Hostgator too but then I came across dollar2Host and have been using them with no complaints. It's pretty much the same unlimited everything that Hostgator offers but at a much lower price of only $2.00/month or $24/annually. Whether it is as good as Hostgator or Go Daddy when it comes to hosting hundreds of sites I can't say because I only have a few sites. But I've been very happy with them for the last 7 months or so.

I've used Crystal Tech for cold fusion sites and DomainHostUSA for all my others - with no complaints
