So I harvested 83 good proxies. Then I added some more to the list and went to test them all again and most of the ones that were good at first were now dead. This is just 15 seconds later... What can anyone tell me about this?

83 proxies is nothing. Harvest much much more.
Also one harvested with scrapebox always fail in few seconds as you stated.

Well I was working on more, but then I spent $5 and got another 6,000 to add to my list so I stopped it to add the new ones.

So basically the ones harvested in scrapebox are pretty useless?

Public proxies, sometimes, are useless. If you are using the right tool and the right settings, you can find some good proxies.

Check the Proxy Lists section here in BHW. It is updated daily with thousands of working proxies.

Public proxies are dying very very fast, in one moment they are working after 5 seconds they are not. Use them only for harvesting and harvest thousands of proxies to be sure that you will have enough working during harvesting urls.

How many private proxies would I need to buy if I chose to use them instead of public ones?

with those public proxies failing second time round, sometimes its the latency on them has increased and timed out depending on your scrapebox settings. Doesnt always mean its dead.
