I've been looking for a while but haven't been able to find an answer to this question. Apart from the obvious, what is the difference between the two?

The thing with the slow poster is that is very slow :)
Is a waste of time to use it unless you want to post on some high quality blogs or you are using a very small list. If not, I recommend you to stick with fast poster.

I am sure you would have found your answer by now, but this is for future reference for anyone who find the post.

Fast poster is optimised for, surprise, fast posting. Wordpress and MovableType blogs can be updated through this method. (+BlogEngine, B2Evolution as well. But I don't do that often)

Slow poster is browser based and supports Drupal and ExpressionEngine blogs in addition to the ones supported by fast poster.

If you have ScrapeBox, the help message is provided in the tool tip when you hover on "Slow Poster", "Fast Poster" radio button. The typical recommendation is to scrape for URLs, post comments using fast poster, remove the successful ones, and try commenting using slow poster. You will speed up the process, find better blogs to get your link on, and move on to less beautiful things in life.
