As the title suggests, these are the 2 main methods for finding website's backlinks but which do you prefer and why?

I've been using the Backlink Checker, but I've now tried instead the link: for 10,000 domains; selected Yahoo and turned proxies off. I know each IP can harvest around 5 million URLs per day, so in theory, I should be fine. The reason for this is because I had no idea whether the Back Link Checker had froze or it was just taking a while, once I'd clicked 'Download All'.

This way seems to be better visually to check at what stage it's up to.

But is there any main difference other than one is harvesting and the other is using the add-on?

Never tried link:domain on scrapebox but I guess I will have to try it out since everytime I use Backlinkchecker. I put like 200+ proxy in proxy section and it doesnt use them at all (I have checked use proxy box)

Well the method of link:domain, you can get away without using proxies. If you try no proxies using the BL checker, you'll get loads of errors. So that's another plus of getting the links via harvesting.

I use Yahoo! Linkdomain to check my competitors backlinks, and then I DL them to a text file and upload them to SB and run "Blog Analyzer"...I've found some good links that way...

    Thanks for this tip Muchacho.
I've had problems with Error 999 in the Backlink checker, so your method seems like a very neat workaround!

SB backlink checker addon uses Yahoo Site Explorer to fetch backlinks and it is limited to 1000 backlinks per URL. When you use link: operator, G0ogle show very less count of all the backlinks pointing to a site. So I prefer backlink checker addon.

But muchacho is saying you should only check Yahoo (uncheck google, aol and bing) for this method, right?

Hey muchacho - how many connections do you set for Yahoo when you use this method?

Anyway, I'm testing this method out right now.

I'm thinking Yahoo might be limited to 1000 regardless of which of these methods you do. However, I think the harvesting is visually better from the users perspective as you have a clearer idea of how many backlinks SB has currently scraped.

With the add-on, it's not as clear as it scrolls down the list but doesn't move the scroll bar, so you're there clicking up and down trying to find out what stage it's at. Then when you click 'Download All', it's hard to tell whether SB has crashed, or whether it's just taking a long time.

As things stand, I'm now using the link:domain method.
