    Hey guys,

I have been using SB Alive Check a lot, i mean A LOT. However, i can pretty much come up to the conclusion that they are totally not accurate at all, more like a hit or miss.

Is there any ACCURATE alternative to this? i can't seem to find any solid alternative to SB alive check.

    Thanks in advance.

The Alive Checker works by HTTP status codes returned by the website you are checking, there's a list of them here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes

You can fully configure the Alive Checker how you want in the Options menu by adding in what response codes you want to class as dead or alive. If you want to class a 302 redirect as Alive, just add 302 as a success code. If you want to class 302 redirects as Dead, you can do that also by removing the 302 from the Alive responses. You can also set it to follow redirects and check the status of the destination page.

But you are right, a 404 "Page Not Found" response can be returned but the website shows a custom webpage. But technically the URL is dead if it's a 404 regardless if it's showing the custom 404 page. So it's not "hit or miss" there's a specific reason why it returns a particular result for a URL, all of which you can control by adding the appropriate response codes in the options.

The other way to do this without relying on the servers response code is check the actual page content for a basic HTML tag or piece of text, even a single character which the Page Scanner Addon can do.
