What a crock of crap. Stay away from this freelancing site. I had a gig on there for writing. I bid on a couple of different jobs, and won them. Freelancer . com automatically charged me a percentage of the job (20 three hundred word articles @ $3\ea). Then after being awarded the job I never heard from the employers...twice. I have no idea if this is something the website is doing, or what's going on, but it's just not worth weeding through all of the hundreds of jobs just to, maybe, find one legit employer. Going on two weeks now and I'm still trying to get my money back.

Maybe your title is not 100% accurate either. You didn't get scammed by freelancer.com did you? You just took up a job opportunity and the buyer has let you down, thats what it sounds like to me. Surely you can contact freelancer and get the fees back once they see the job did not go ahead?

And of course, its one of the big negatives about freelancing online - the entire system is a lot more cut throat and competative, because there is such a massive marketplace (Global marketplace) buyers can be very flipent - they can always get the best price by shopping around and if they dont like something about a seller they can just look somewhere else). So when you are selling services online you need to be competative - either in terms of price or the quality of the services you offer and you also need to be prepared to deal with buyers that mess you around.

Of course there are loads of advantages of offering services online as well - the big one being that you have the entire world as your potential target market.....
