Hi, looking for a bit of advice. I sell microsoft points on ebay and recently one buyer bought 10x £30 items, then after 3 days claimed 'unauthorised transaction' paypal ruled with him saying I was not allowed to sell them. Anyhow, £300 negative balance, it was a stealth account however I have used my bank card on it before. I tried reasoning with paypal but no luck.

My question: What is paypal likely to do apart from debt collection. Is this a big enough sum for them to track my ip?

    Thanks in advance :)

$300 isn't much, but PayPal is persistent and stingy with negative balances. I've never had it happen to me myself, but chances are they'll try and contact you to get information on how they can get their money. Like every other business, they still worry about the little things!

Do you know if they're likely to contact the police? i preferably would not pay it but if the alternative is the police, I'll just have to.

I have -$500 on my primary account in the last 2 years and I do just fine, no debt collector, police, etc.

It also depends where you live and their accessibility to gain your personal information and to contact the appropriate legal authorities. A few years ago i know of some people buying and selling virtual items and many of them have been had negative balances as a result of 'charge-backs' on paypal. They will give you a phone call (if they have access to it) warning you to make your balance positive or even or might have some nasty looking people at your door-step.
