Nothing illegal about it. As long as you do you research and are confident the demand is there then you should be good, get it wrong though and you could risk loosing the profit if you are unable to sell all the tickets you hold. There is money to be made...

Here in Vancouver scalping goes on all over the place and there is plenty money to be made. Like a lot of things, you need money to make money.

It was crazy here for the olympics. Ceremony tickets bought for about 700 and sold for about 2500 to 3000 a piece. The mens hockey final tickets were like gold dust. Absolutley silly prices.

Happens all the time for music gigs as well. Ive put tickets up on craigs and scalpers have bought them from me.

I originally from Scotland (where its called touting in the UK) and there making it illegal but it'll still happen.

Wheres theres money to be made people will do it...

Is there any Aussies here that know about the legalities, I know its frowned upon here, but I heard you can only mark them up a certain %%
The guys selling the Metallica tickets on ebay were doubling their money So I guess I should do the same, I scored 2 ticket for myself , might see if I can get hold of 2 more to test it out. Its a method thats probably as old as prostitution but what the hell :p

Every concert I've been to where tix cost more than $25 has had people out front scalping just about. I'd say you make more standing out front vs online but you run a higher risk because in many places it is illegal and their are police and concert security out there looking for that sort of thing.

funny, I remember listening to a segment on NPR Radio couple months ago about a lady here in US. She bought a ticket to some concert but than could not go as one of her kids got sick, so she placed ad on CL and sold it at 100% profit. Now she turns over like 500K a year.
I guess there is huge market for these kind of things. Its the oldest trade in the world. Concert/event ticket, even airplane, hotel rooms all that. even Baby strollers, stocks all the same principle Buy when interest is low / sell when their a scarce. Economics 101.
Few years ago I bought tickets for Cirque du Soleil and believe on the site was an option "sell your ticket", not sure what site it was, but it was one of the big guys.
Might look into it myself, put little twist on it. Not sure about legalities though I would not like to Stand in from of a stadium waving "Ticket available at 100% the price" :)

I'm a big concert goer I've been to over 30 concerts this year alone and here is how the ticket selling and purchasing cycle goes....... The first thing is finding what shows will have the highest demand and getting yourself ready for when the tickets go on sale. the advantage that you have here is that the tickets go on sale months before the concert and before the majority of the public is aware.
Try to sign up for to that bands website they ussually will have a presale for the members of their site, even if you have to pay $10 for the membership its definetly worth it in the end.

There is really two time frames where you will be able to get the most money out of the tickest number one is after they announce on the radio etc. that the tickets for the band have been sold out. Even tough its months down the road the hardcore fans start to panic and are willing to pay top dollar for tickets because THEY ARE SOLD OUT! and no one wants to feel left out.

Try to sell most of your tickets at this time as this is where you will be able to get top dollar. The second best time to sell them is 3-1 weeks before the concert, this seems to be the time where the general public get in to the mix and start to buy them because they love the band, their best friends are going etc. What you dont want to do is try to sell them less than a week before the show because what happens at this point is that all of the people that bought tickets to the show and now have a change of plan start selling them. Most of those people realize that they can sell them for cheap or the ticket goes to waste, so they sell them for under face value sometimes. You definetly dont want to be competing agianst that.
Anyway thats my advice best of Luck making money Brother

Don't buy from ticketmaster.com and his associate company, they will scalp you badly. I bought the eagles ticket from them for $160 but face value on the ticket is only $59.99 They charge you everything they can, tax, online fee, S & H (courier) and mark up profit may be 100%. I asked them what was going on here. Why did they sell $59.00 ticket for $160.00? They said the concert was in demand and sold out and that was the way how they made money from.

This is an interesting article ,thanks for that. looks like they do have some laws in Qld and Vic, but a $500 fine if caught ! Big Deal !!

Only Victoria and Queensland have anti-scalping laws, despite the public outcry every time scalpers are caught selling high-priced tickets on eBay to sold-out AFL games and other sporting events or concerts.
The average fan invariably misses out on tickets because they cannot afford to pay the scalper's exorbitant prices.
Many scalpers operate out of houses filled with banks of computers and use multiple high-limit credit cards to buy tickets in bulk on the first day they go on sale.
The issue came to a head last weekend when scalpers were described as "greedy bastards" on internet website forums for selling tickets to the sold-out St Kilda-Geelong clash at Etihad Stadium for more than $200 above the cost price.
Under Victorian anti-scalping laws, it is illegal to sell AFL grand final tickets above face value, but other games are not covered.
Sports bodies can apply to have an event covered by the anti-scalping legislation but this process can take months, ruling out events such as the A-League soccer grand final, where the host city is decided two weeks in advance.
Melbourne City Council figures show there have been 58 scalpers issued with $500 on-the-spot fines since 2004, including five this year. The fines cover anyone scalping tickets in the Yarra precinct for sporting events, theatre shows and concerts.
Scalpers have been offering A-reserve tickets to AC/DC concerts next February for $410 each (cost price $149.90), while platinum seats for Simon and Garfunkel's show last month were selling for $1000 each (cost price $358.50).
