    Hey guys,

I got SB. Do I need to get a VPS for it? Can i get away with proxies I grab with my scraper? Do I need to buy private proxies? What is a VPS? Pros/cons of these options? I might give someone who gives me a really detailed answer a buck. Also can you recommend me VPS companys if I need to get one?

    Chad

you don't need private proxies, working with the scraped proxies is perfectly fine. I personally use VPS (virtual private server, kind of a remote computer) but i don't think you have to, bought the VPS from someone in BHW (look in the BST section)

Depends on a few factors, the primary factor being your ISP. If you have a decent amount of bandwidth, you just need proxies - but you really need proxies. Lots of them if you're really going to scale up at all using sbox.

They don't have to be private, in my opinion, but be aware there are basically two types of useful proxies when it comes to sbox - proxies you use for everything *but* commenting (e.g. scraping, checking pagerank, alive check, etc.), and then proxies you use for commenting. In the new proxy harvester (not that new, really, was introduced months ago), you can test your proxies in sbox two different ways. There's an option in there about whether or not to test goog. Make sure you're testing goog if you're going to use the proxies for scraping, PR checking, and the like. But for pure commenting you can skip the goog test.

The proxies from sbox's inbuilt sources are pretty heavily-used and, therefore, slower and burn out faster (e.g. they get recognized by goog or akismet or the like, or get killed quickly). But you can add your own proxy sources, loopline has a video on how to do that. And wherever the proxies are from I recommend running them through the sbox tester (again, which of the two types of test you do depends on how you're going to use them).

A VPS is, it's a virtual private server, it would allow you to run sbox on that machine without tying up your own machine. If you're new to sbox, I'd suggest you start by learning it, learning about proxies and proxy sources, and so on, before thinking about investing in a VPS. And some companies are twitchy about blackhat tools running on their VPS's, so you definitely want to do more research before taking that dive. But for now, if you have a beefy enough machine (or a spare computer) and a fast internet connection, you could probably get by as long you have a bunch of decent proxies. scrapebox doesn't really use that much in the way of resources other than internet bandwidth (it's coded very efficiently, low RAM and CPU usage for example).
