Before you jump to conclusions take these very simple steps...
1. Check your GA code is still on your website.
2. Check web master tools/search console for any penalty alerts.
Even with a penalty you wouldn't go from X amount of traffic to 0 in a day. My guess is he removed GA tracking code.
That's exactly why I suggested he should check.
There are no errors in webmastertools and I found that my google analytics code was not there. I don't know why it wouldn't be there as I Haven't touched this site in a long time. I added it back though. Although this site did expire a few days ago and I renewed it now. THanks.
How did you add it to the site?
If you added it directly to the core files of a wordpress theme (for example) and updated the theme (like you should) then your edit would have been over written and the GA code would be removed.
