Amazing Idea but sounds too good to be true,time will tell

First off. For non UK people. The Daily Mail is a bullshit rag that makes up facts to get headlines and wouldnt let the truth get in the way of the story.

I can see nothing about this company to suggest they are going to beaming Wi-Fi to the world. It looks like they will be a broadcast channel that will have stuff like Khan acadeny and Wikipedia available to access.

Long term they may be of benefit to exceptionlly rural places(like deserts) that can get absolutely no Internet currently but a satelite signal broadcast from space would have little effect in urban areas that are already wired for wi-fi.

It will be "one-way Internet" at the initial stage, indeed. However, even one-way traffic can be put into a good use. For example, if they will broadcast maps for GPS navigators, many people will be fast to drop their paid mobile Internet plans.

Wait for the internet lobbies to ruin this great project. For me it's almost impossible they allow such thing to happen, they've been investing billions to develop their coverage and technology.

"Internet lobbies" ruining projects. Lawl. The billions invested have created a platform that allows people like you to make millions of dollars online while sitting at home in your pajamas. Try doing that 30 years ago, or even worse, 50 years ago. The further you go back the harder life is, yet people like you like to moan about how we're all slaves to our dark overlords. It is still internet, what ever you call it it still will be big network controlled by DNS servers.

Satellite internet isn't anything and is used for many years.

Only issue is cost, bandwidth, ping...

Free version of internet like this already exists and there is plenty of free transponders transmitting websites (more advanced users can learn how to receive .rar/.zip/.iso/.avi etc.)

Their idea is just a huge free marketing to promote their business. Only new thing is to do it globally as at this moment you can use different providers for different parts of the world.#

All you need is appropriate PCI card and of course satellite dish (download via sat, upload via phone/normal broadband, if you want to spend more you can buy sat-link which will send/download via satellite).

I've been playing with this back in 2003 or 2004.
