Don't know if this has been posted already, but as you can see...

Google has replaced the colored background behind ads to make them look more like organic listings.. Despite them putting the little yellow "ads" sign, most people will still think it's an organic listing..

I don't understand why Google is so greedy. They are already rich enough to do anything they want... What are they exactly gonna do with the extra money?

Why care? If you offer a real product. Or a product of any kind.

Adwords can bring you major profits as an internetmarketer. Think outside the box.

Because they have stock holders, pay employees, want to expand their service range. And of course because they just are.

@OP in my opinion this sort of change wouldn't have that much effect. Especially is you can see the yellow add button right next to the ad.
You'd have to be pretty dumb not to understand that it's an ad.

Hasn't been rolled out to me yet, but I can see it on my phone. Should be interesting to see how many people shift to PPC now.

Greedy? They are a company. It is their job to make money.

I didn't know companies were supposed to put a cap on how much money they make.

Besides, higher CTRs can be good for PPC advertisers.

If you are making $500/day and found a way to double that, wouldn't you?

Point is no one says no to money.

I agree with you, but out of all my years in IM, one thing I noticed is that people (consumers) don't tend to read very much... It's like they subconsciously perform action without conscious effort. Most people might simply overlook it. Non tech savvy users might think "Ad" might stand for something else besides "advertisements".

    I don't see this change.

From a user perspective, I don't like to see ads at all i.e, the reason I use AdBlock. Not to forget, I'm also an AdSense publisher.

From money making perceptive, I'll try to find all the ways that brings me money. It's a battle field - do or die. If you don't do others will surely take over you.

I don't see a change too. May be they are rolling out slowly.

I'm guessing they did their research and testing and figured out the little yellow Ad icon gets more clicks.

To me, it looks more spammy, like there are Ads on the site and I should beware or steer clear.

The different colored background showed the sites as more of an authority to me.

when i was a kid i would never click the ad on search page, i would always click the first or second ranked site on google page one. So thats also a point.

I believe this new layout only applies to certain city/country. I am not seeing it yet.

Could be a pilot test being rolled out in specific demographics before scaling, you can always check from a different ip to confirm

Not everyone likes to "click" on ads as well. So they may say "Nope not clicking that one, thats an ad" and go to the one that has no yellow tag

It they are doing it - it means this produces bigger ctr, so instead "bye bye ctr" should say "hello hello ctr"

no way in hell they are doing it to reduce ctr.
