When you are sanboxed, can you still bounce around and hit the first page periodically throughout the day?

One of my sites was recently sandboxed from which I was number 5 on page 1 but now I am not even top 100. However, when I
check my analytics I still seem to be getting traffic from some of the keywords that are stuck on page 17 plus.

Does this mean that throughout the day, I get placed back on page one for a short period of time? I don't see how else
I can still be getting traffic from page 17.

Yes your rankings can change throughout the day. Hard to tell in your exact situation but rankings are pretty fluid so you could be seeing traffic as the keyword bounces up and down.

Not every user will see your website on Page 17. Google can adjust your rankings based on the users country (even if they are searching using Google.com), probably adjusted based on that users previous search history and other factors as well. Not to mention, some people do just randomly click on page 17 to see what else the web has to offer.

But yes, bottom line is your website will randomly jump around in the rankings unless it is blacklisted. Google is always changing rankings non stop because every visitor to your page and your competitors pages change the way they value every site that is ranked for that keyword.
