I was thinking of getting a VPS to use mainly for crawling domains, and in the future also run GSA from it. So I though that maybe I could use the same VPS for domain hosting to save some money :) do you think this would be a bad idea? Would hosting PBN domains on this VPS have a negative impact for ranking or leave footprints (when it's used for other SEO tools simultaneously)?

If you intend to work with seo tools without proxies it might not be a best idea ;-) , I would order additional IP just for the domain hosting part on that host, but if you work with anonymous proxies or vpn then I see no reason to keep domains and seo tools on separate hosts.

    1. You don't want to run a site on a VPS while GSA and you other stuff use up all memory and CPU.
    2. For GSA you need a Windows VPS and I doubt you want to host a site on Windows. PHP (e.g. Wordpress) and Windows don't mix well, it's possible, but if you aren't a real geek or want run a CMS based on ASP.net, forget it.

    Hello,

It's not really possible to do that. I mean, you can if you want but it would be a mistake.

Most web servers run on Linux for a two reason - it's much lighter and it's the best. I would not mix Linux and Windows on the same VPS, and SEO Tools need too much RAM and CPU, so your hosting will get slowly at some points.

I wouldn't do that but it's up to you.

If op gets 4 core vps , it's always possible to set the cpu affinity to half or 3/4 of the cores or so just for GSA SER or set the priority of the process to low/lower, according to performance it's true, linux would be best for the purpose of hosting.

All in all you can get 2 things working on one host, but it's rather doubtful you will be satisfied with the speed of working of the software if you want to run it on vps.

If you wanted to run both things on dedicated box it would probably perform alot better, specifically on multicore servers.

If the OP tries doing this, he'll be back in a few days asking why half his WordPress plugins aren't working properly on Windows ;)
