[SALES 101] Simple Mindset that Will Skyrocket Your Sales & Persuade Prospects to Buy!

    How do you sell or market something that's *unsexy* and get a person chomping at the bit to hear more, to try your widget, or to sit down with you?


    I was doing some thinking recently...pondering if you will and I had an epiphany....a light bulb moment. I was able to consolidate and put into words the mindset behind why even though I HATE sales, and HATE being sold to, yet I am AWESOME at persuading and influencing people around me with my ideas ALL the time (as many of you marketers likely do ALL the time)...

    I really despise sales, I used to do it for a living and the constant pressure was one of the reasons why I went into IM in the first place....BUT I almost never fail to sell people on the ideas that I have. When a light bulb moment hits me and I have a creative idea or invention or business idea I would venture to say that 85-90% of the time I succeed in influencing everyone around me to adopt it or apply it. Why? Because my belief creates excitement in me which is contagious and transfers my belief and excitement to them when I talk to them....

    YET when I used to be a salesperson I was HORRIBLE at it. I was learning and reading all about sales yet my sales results were abysmal....yet when it came influencing others with ideas or concepts when I would talk to them in person you could almost predict the next words out of my mouth would be "Those aren't the droids your looking for..."




    So here's a simple yet highly effective way to sell without being salesy or slimy, and I would venture to say that 8 to 9 times out of 10 where I do this I have success in either the form of a sale or of influencing a person to try my idea or adopt my point of view.


    In your mind, before you talk to someone frame what your selling as a new idea, invention or business idea you had that you know that person or business owner your talking to would benefit *immensely* from. You know it will fit like a glove with what they do in their business or with their strengths/talents.

    Pitch it like an idea! Frame it in your mind like a light bulb moment u had that you just *know* is gonna give their business (or goals) wings and set it loose!

    Stop trying to sell and frame your mind going into it like you and your best friend own a steakhouse together and you just discovered how to make the absolute best tasting steak you have had in your life! How hard would it be to try and persuade your partner to try it? How excited would he be to give it a taste?

    And neither you nor your friend would feel like they were selling nor being sold to.....you would have belief and excitement oozing out of every word that came from your mouth.

    I ALWAYS do this...unconsciously..and most of the time I get my friends just as excited about the idea as I am.




    So back to my original question:
    How do you sell or market something thats *unsexy* and get a person chomping at the bit to hear more, to try your widget or to sit down with you?


    Firstly, Find out what your client/prospect/friend needs or what problems they have that are really bugging them. Then after the initial conversation get back in touch with them and have the conversation go something to this effect:

    "Hey man I remember you mentioning the other day that you were having issues with blah blah blah....I had an idea last night that you are going to flip out about! I think it's gonna turn things completely around in that area for you....lets grab a bite to eat I gotta tell ya all about it...when are ya free?"


    Then when you get with them don't give them a presentation or a slick sales pitch.....talk to them as if they are Wilbur Wright and you just figured out why every time they try to fly that plane it crashes! Don't tell them what the idea is, explain to them how the idea came to you and how it will solve their issue they are having that has been bugging you and them EVER since. Most of us do this ALL the time and don't know know it! How many times have you and a buddy been talking about good mexican places to eat at....and then you go to this *one place* that was just PHENOMENAL food. You then go telling and bragging to him....you tell him the flavor, the texture, and every minute detail of how freaking good it was! You will always have belief and be excited from this perspective and IMHO these two things are 75% of sales. The other parts being identifying problems they need fixing and how you can fix them.

    This can be done WITH ANYTHING, it all has to do with framing how you think before going into it. This also can be done on any medium.....in person, email, phone, sales copy etc etc. But it is HIGHLY effective at influencing people. I have done it subconsciously for YEARS and I just recently realized WHAT I was doing and why it worked soo dang well! Use your imagination and you'll figure how to incorporate this across your sales and marketing efforts.
