Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has experience running giveaways to gain backlinks for an affiliate site. I was thinking about offering a $200 or so item to the contest winner. Basically I have a lot of "best of" articles and was going to award whichever item I had listed as the best as the prize.
For example, if I had a "best tennis rackets" page, the winner would receive a tennis racket. The hope is that I could get backlinks from big authority sites in the tennis niche whose readers would want to win such an item. Those would be seriously awesome backlinks to rank my best tennis rackets article long after the contest was over.
In your experience, are niche relevant blogs / authority sites likely to link to the contest? Of course, other affiliate sites are not likely to link to me (unless they are so big they don't care), but maybe authority type sites in the niche would? Really haven't tried this kind of outreach so not sure how receptive people would be. Any experience you guys have would be appreciated.
Obviously I don't want to waste my time and money setting the whole thing up if it's going to result in 0 backlinks. I don't really run email lists, etc, so the value would all come from the links.
