i have a mac & ive been running a single bot in virtual box for past couple of days, everything seemed to be fine until today when the bot stopped on its own due to limited memory space on the virtual disc.

when i first created the virtual disc i gave it 10 gb of memory. it has used up about 9.75gb of memory in past couple of days.

anybody have any clue as to why this is happening? the bot itself is only 2mb..

Maybe this bot is junk. With well-built bot, thinks kinda thing never happens, if you know the creator then ask him or she for an update.

Remember when Firefox was having leaking of memory, with just 5 tabs open. They released and update to solve it.

Well-built software, this kinda thing rarely happens. I can be wrong about this ONE, but generally, that's the way it is.

so r u saying it has to do with the build of the bot? the bot itself is storing memory? but where?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_leak

Due to an error in the programming, i.e. it's the bot-maker's fault, lol.

Every program manages memory. Even if this program has been built with high-level languages like: C#, C++ and or Java, for example, they will manage memory. Everything depends on how the developer created it.

A simple example can also be with PHP, if the developer creates some loop with php it can also put the server to run out of memory.

Was it you that created this bot?

Then talk to him, to fix it. It's his fault and he has to fix it for you.

Do you even know what your bot does? Is it supposed to be harvesting something from the internet and saving the information?

not to be or sound rude, but is it putting any files on your pc ? whether its a bot for sites, or links, or whatever, there is usually a output. So maybe it is doing logs... but a lot of them.
    just an idea

is the consumed memory increased gradually? or, all of suddenly? is the bot webbrowser based?

anyway, most likely, it is the program. you will have to ask the developer to check it. could be easy, could be complex.
