I was wondering if someone could clarify something about the rules behind selling outside of the Market Place.

This is my understanding of the rules at present: No one is allowed to sell on BHW outside of the Market Place. The exception of this being if someone posts in HAF/WTB and is looking for someone to do a task or provide a product/service.

So if someone has signatures like this (something I see quite a bit):

Are these allowed? There are no relevant BSTs to go with the services offered, which presumably means they are selling via PM.

Isn't this same like advertising any other link in signature ? Only difference is that the service is owned by someone else. There also deal happens outside BHW.
Regarding signature, I remember reading some post by mod where it was mentioned that you can post like " Signature is available for rent". CTA Words like pm me are not allowed.

If I'm not mistaken, you can have signatures that point to sites outside of BHW even if you don't have a BST. What you cannot do is make a direct reference to it (such as "check out my signature") with a post, PM or thread if you don't have a related BST here. But maybe a mod or admin can hop on to clarify just in case.

I think there's a difference between linking to something outside and advertising something that you are trying to sell (especially via PM).

Yeah, links are allowed in people's signatures - the rules for signatures are in the Terms and Rules here:

    5. SIGNATURES.
You must be a Donor or Jr. VIP member on this forum inorder to use text, links or images in your signature. You may post 2-3 affiliate links or 1 banner (728x90 pixels max) in your signature. Do not use a font size larger than 3, crazy fonts/colors, sound clips, excessive smileys, or anything else annoying. Including calls to action such as "PM me"

5.1 - Signature Banners should not display bare skin, (nudity, for example, persons in bikinis and lingerie are not acceptable) suggestive images, religious reference, or vulgar language are not acceptable. Your signature maybe removed at BHW's discretion and an infraction will be applied. Banners should not be similar to other advertisers on the site so as to create confusion, this includes signatures within threads! You can use jpg, png or limited animated gif’s, the refresh rate on any graphic or text within the gif should not be less than 3 seconds. Annoying or flashing images are NOT acceptable, that includes text flashing, and text flying in at any position, glitch effects, flash is NOT accepted, the file size of any banner should not exceed 200KB, ideally your banner size should be 100KB or less for loading speed - banners slowing BHW maybe removed. Your banner should not contain claims that are false or misleading, e.g. “Approved by Google” when clearly, they have not been approved by Google.

We also allow Affiliate links in the signature, per rule #4

    4. AFFILIATE LINKS.

Affiliate links are permitted only in the "Affiliate Programs" section of the forum, or in your signature

    Hope this helps!

What about people selling via PM because of their signatures without a BST?

Oh, I missed your point above, sorry.

Technically, you're absolutely right - people shouldn't be selling via PM, so the links should lead outside or to a sales thread. However, Premium membership is available specifically for people who just want to advertise in their signatures.

If people are contacting them via PM in regards to their signature thread, then they're not sending unsolicited PM's or violating the PM rules, so it's not really selling in that way. However, if someone does buy a service through someone's signature and it then goes offline to skype or another medium, then this makes it difficult to mediate the issue in the SL forum.

    What I will add to the person who I warned this morning about a referral link in their homepage ( who is a regular member ) this is the rule if you haven't found it;

    4. AFFILIATE LINKS.

Affiliate links are permitted only in the "Affiliate Programs" section of the forum, or in your signature
