So i normally don't try to rank websites as I find it alot of work and have always had better luck with youtube. But I decided to give it a shot today and make a site.
Its a near exact match domain on a 4400 Exact US Monthly Search Volume keyword.

My point: If I am trying to rank a website for one keyword how do I setup the content?

Do I make multiple articles on the same topic targeting the same keyword? Or should I have 3-4 other keyword phrases that are similiar that I should target as well? How many articles should i shoot for 5, 10, 20? I guess I'm just a little confused on how to rank an exact match domain. I would appreciate any advice.

The more content the better, focusing around your keyword and related keywords.

The short answer: more content than you want to write yourself :p

The long answer: for my blog network sites, for every link that I build out to my money sites, I try to have at least 3000+ words of 'authority' type content on the topic, which is often split amongst 4 to 6 articles. Not each will necessarily have a link out to my money site - my aim usually is to build relevant and meaningful 'Google cred' on the topic, to give my link more value.

Ok explain what makes it garbage? I am sincerely curios. I have been out of the website SEO game for a while. Are you saying that exact match domains sites are garbage now? I spent like 4 ours writing a in depth article today over 2k words. I'd like to know if I'm waisting my time.

Absolutely no more content than is required to convert a visitor. What does convert mean to you? Email? Application? Click on ads?

Well that's encouraging. I guess I will continue to do this for similar keywords and topics and just keep building. I plan to do some manual tier 1's and then use GSA on those tiers. WE'll see how it goes I guess.

    depends upon quality of content.

sometime one good article can help to rank you , sometimes you will need 10 fiverr articles.

    check your competitors.

I would have to agree with what someone above me said. As much content that is required to convert the visitor. This can mean a variety of things, but you do not need anything more than that.

Depending on your cheapest commodity, you might be better off buying the articles than writing them.
If time is cheaper than money for you right now - sure, write them, but if $20 on articles is cheaper than a day of your time, you should head over to the BST's and find some article writers...

I disagree, because with an affiliate site this would mean that just having the main review article, and maybe 2 or 3 articles more, would be enough. With such a small content I highly doubt that you can rank good. Also, you need more content to increase your traffic by targeting more longtail KWs and also to improve your onpage SEO, because 1.) a #1 site with 25 articles looks way more natural than a #1 site with 5 articles and 2.) The readers are spending more time on your site --> very good rankning factor.
