    What's up BHW.

    Time for a journey!

I'm currently working a day job running a pretty successful marketing agency but love building internet marketing side projects on the side.

Started on here on BHW 9 years ago and left for a few years but still use the basics I've learned from my projects back then to build the agency and side projects in my free time.

This thread will be about the 12 side projects I am launching in the next 12 months, with the goal of making $1.2k/month with each side project.

That means I am going to build just one side project every single month and it needs to generate income within that month as well as it has to basically create revenue without having to spend too much time on it.

Every week I have about 3-5 new ideas for side projects and write them down. Before every month, I pick the one I like most.

I've made $3k+/month from side projects before so this should be fun.

The core essentials of a side project:
    - It needs to be something I spend less than 10 hours a week on (first month) and 2 hours a month afterwards (outsourcing to a VA or intern is allowed)

    - It needs to generate at least $1.2k/month based on those hours

    - It needs to be able to generate income for a longer period of time (12 months+)

    - Spending money is allowed but the rule is that it has to create $1.2k/month in profits - not revenue

    - Long term > Short term

    - Something that breaks the internet, so no copy of something else - it has to be unique

    - Strategy to monetize from day 0.

    Time for the first month
I have been working on a new e-book for about a month now, which is based on creating the perfect marketing strategy for new e-commerce stores.

The main purpose is creating good content and not some shitty "Get rich quick on the internet" type of product.

Just want to write something that people are actually going to get the most out of, something that'll stick with them for months.

So no Tai Lopez BS but actual good stuff.

Marketing will be through several online channels that I've used in the past and still need to figure out how to properly use these channels to promote this product.

Mainly ads + partnerships as those are better in the long term (and easily scalable).

    New ideas
I write down all my ideas in a notepad including time investment + money investment.

This way I know what I can choose the next month.

Every idea has to already have a way to monetize it.

Has to be executed within 2 weeks, setting up marketing should take around 2 weeks as well.

Sounds good. Hope you stick to the plan and actually launch 12 projects.
And I hope that you'll earn at least something (so that it's more fun to follow the journey)

    Following! Good luck!

Dude, holy shit we signed up for BHW on the same date 9 years ago.

Yeah sticking to it won't be much of a challenge, it's all about execution in the end.

Been in this business for 9 years now so making money is the main focus which makes it a lot easier to actually make money rather than just building something to see if it sticks.

Here's to a year of lots of failures but few successes that make up for that!

Alright, here’s the summary of what I have done so far one the first day:

    - took about an hour to just sit still and think about everything before taking the next steps to launch this first project (the ebook).

    - ended up thinking of a strategy to get some reviews on my product before launching - about 15-25 reviews, all white hat

    - finished the marketing plan for the first 2 weeks with 5 different marketing methods to sell the book

    - after those 2 weeks I cut down all techniques that didn’t give a positive ROI

    - I will then spend my budget on the techniques that did work

Overall, fantastic day. Got a bit less productive because I switched sleeping schedules but that should be fine starting tomorrow.

    Project 1 Revenue: $0

    Launch date: May 22nd

    Will update again tomorrow

Remember, if you find it hard managing your tasks and can't keep up with the 12 projects, just do: Pomodoro technique ;)

Definitely, because I’ll be selecting projects based on the criteria in the OP, I’ll be able to fit it into my schedule.

    Plan for today:
    - finish 2 of the last 3 chapters to write (and add screenshots)

    - write book description

    - design a book cover

    - research marketing costs for Reddit and Facebook retargeting

    - hit up 5 proof readers, since the book is 18K words I want to use different proofreaders for different chapters. Each gets 4 chapters, proofreads it, then it gets checked by another proofreader

Just got done meditating. Off to the gym now, empty my mind so I can focus on day job first then work on this project.

    Days until launch: 6

How do you manage to stay motivated? Because from what I've read it seems like you're doing something 24/7. Running a marketing agency, managing people must be quite energy consuming and tiring at the end of the day.

Alright, day 2 was mainly packed with meetings and got a bit hungover this morning so productivity is lower than usual.

Today (day 3) I am mainly packed with meetings for my marketing agency to sign some new clients and form new partnerships, including looking for a new intern for our LinkedIn marketing services to work with our IM specialist.

So that'll be the main focus. In between meetings I'm sorting out everything with the proofreaders and getting the book perfected ASAP.

    Next week I have to:
    - Upload the book to GumRoad
    - Post topics for review copies on 4 different platforms
    - Get reviews from people around me (this + review copies will be around 30 reviews)
    - Finish my launch strategy. Right now the following platforms will be used:
    • Facebook groups within this niche
    • ProductHunt
    • IndieHackers
    • Reddit
    • Medium

Using great content will be the right strategy for Reddit and Medium, and I'll set up ads there as well.

Goal for the first month is to get to 42 sales at $29 each. During this month I will also have time to figure out the right advertising platforms to get more results.

I will also start working on a partnership program with blogs within this niche that will get an affiliate cut for every sale they make.

    Alright, here it goes.

This weekend I mainly focused on the agency since we have some pretty cool potential clients coming up.

This means the agency revenue could go up by about 60% MoM so that's pretty great.

Aside from that, I have done the following in the last few days for the first projects:

    • Contacted all my proofreaders, so they are now reading the book

    • Contacted the first 10 people for the review copies

    • Created a front page for the ebook

    • Finished writing the sales page
    • Did the last finishing touches on the book

So right now just waiting for the proofreaders to finish up, then we're ready to launch.

Money made: $0 dollar bill y'all
