Ripped off by Fiverr AGAIN! Can I warn others?

Okay, so I know very little about SEO and internet marketing. But I know when I'm being ripped off.

I have seen a few endorsements for Fiverr up here but I guess it helps if you know what to watch out for. I clearly don't if my recent exploits with Fiverr are to go by.

The fact is that I'm trying to find other solutions to Google adwords. Years ago it was all I needed to make sales of physical goods and Ebooks. Now I cannot comprehend how anyone is paying the inflated price per click of products that are just worth a few pounds. My latest round of Google adwords was a disaster. It's cheaper to sell on Ebay and pay their fixed fees than it is to sell any product off my own website.

So I've been trying out different Fiverr campaigns. I figured they are cheap so what the hell if they don't make sales. But somehow it still makes me angry when I feel like I've been ripped off. So I was wondering if I should just avoid Fiverr altogether?

I would be happy to place my experiences of any sellers I use on Fiverr, but as they have almost all been bad, it would be nothing more than a warning of what I experienced.

One of them promised 5000 human UK targeted clicks, claiming that he was buying up expired domain names and whatnot. When I paid, all he wanted was the URL which made me suspicious right off. For the last 3 days I have seen a constant flatline of repetitive and consistent traffic that appears to be coming in from Google. It is all so consistent across a 24 hour period - same amount of clicks at 3am as opposed to 6pm at night - it's clear it's all automated. Naturally the traffic converts into nothing at all. No sales or enquiries.

The second one claimed to post to about 50 social bookmarking sites. Didn't see one single solitary click appear in my referral list as a result.

    Sigh!

I just need to find a better marketing method than Google adwords, which won't cost me a £1 a click to sell a £3 item. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do onsite and offsite SEO for your site. SEO is not that hard, there are plenty of free tools to check if your website is properly optimized for SEO or not. A few days ago a member here posted a list of 35 free SEO tools, you should find that thread.

If people actually made money with fiverr, people would just go there instead of paying professionals. PPC is a tricky beast. Buying traffic is useless. What do you think you were gonna get for $5?

    Bookmarking sites are also useless.

Pretty much nothing beats adwords, because its the only way to guarantee #1 rank provided you have the cash. I don't think ebooks without any other type of monetary returns are worth it for adwords.

Another option would be to pay a site a flat fee for a banner.

You will soon discover that online NOBODY does a good job except you. Everyone is out to scam you as much as possible. Give up on the idea of a "service" ever being anything other than a scam.

Use your highest converting media from your adword campaign. Directly email/contact people in your niche. Try to buy add space.

Semrush is decent at anaylising how much traffic a site might have.

Agree that buying traffic on Fiverr is useless, but hey, look at it this way, it only cost you $5 to figure it out :) could have been more. As for "bookmarking sites are also useless" not true, they are good for SEO backlink diversification, not for traffic, so you have put things into perspective, and use the right tools for job/task you're trying to accomplish. Bookmarks, profile links, comments, even blogposts aren't good for PPC. I'm not into PPC so I can't help you, but wish you all the best.

Bookmarking sites are useless for "SEO." Anyone who tries to sell them to you as beneficial is full of shit

A Fiverr guy once told me how he made money. Buy 500,000 followers on Fiverr. Create gigs under separate account to promote to 500,000 followers.

Chuck fiverr, go with PPC :)
You'll get 100% genuine clicks/views rather than automated one.

Thanks for all these great ideas. I have tried a fair few myself.

Before I found this place I used to take a lot of my advice from SEO blogs that seem to make the same suggestions. The vast majority of them yield little to no clicks.I've been amazed at how poorly Twitter campaigns work for instance. I can't imagine what I'd get if I bought 500,000 Twitter followers from fiverr.

I shut my last company down about 4 years ago. I had an e-mail list of 5000 customers. Set up a new company selling similar products recently and sent out a short non spammy looking e-mail to them all. I got all of one sale out of it. At the time I thought, no problem. I'll just return to PPC advertising with Google. I got a few good sales to begin with and then recently they have just petered into almost nothing. I realise that is mostly due to my bids not being high enough but some of the 'suggested' bids are higher in value than the products.

I was thinking of using Bing next, but I've seen so many mixed reviews I'm wary of burning up money as quickly as Google.

As I'm sure you all know Google are offering £75 worth of free adwords for every £25 you spend on adwords. I was thinking of upping my bids on Google and everytime I reach the £25 limit, pay the bill, get the next £75 and use it up by putting up much higher bids. Then when I reach that limit set up another Google adword account for the same free £75 deal. I realise I will need a different bank account for each account I set up but I could probably pull it off about 3 or 4 times before exhausting that particular avenue.

You should have seen that coming! Instead of going after those "Crap gigs" , you should really invest in realistic Ads.
May be you ll fail there too in the beginning but consider it as a self learning phase.

There are some good providers on fiverr and other freelancing sites, but it's kind of "you get what you pay for".
As some people said above, if you want a perfect job done, you might as well do it yourself.
If it's traffic you're after, buying it never works anyway (-:

It has nothing to do with Fiverr, you're probably doing your business wrong.
I bet none of those gig guarantee you conversions - otherwise everyone would use fiverr instead of google adwords.

But you're in the right place - you can find a good advice/method on this forum.
