    Hey guys,

    Here is an example:

Say the keyword i am targeting is "Weight Loss" NOT "weightloss"

    I try to purchase http://weightloss.com, http://weight-loss.com, etc...

Instead I see that http://lossweight.com is available. If i purchase it will it have the same or somewhere near same authority as the weightloss.com?

Interesting. Also, what about using synonyms? Technically that should work too, right?

From personal experience: It will be much easier to promote lossweight.com than totally irrelevant domain name, however compared to weightloss.com it will be much harder.

I have one domain named as weight-loss.com that outranks weightloss.com, however I cant really tell if its better/worser. Its probably a matter of on-page/off-page SEO and not the domain name.

If I had to take an educated guess, I would say that there is no difference between weightloss.com and weight-loss.com.

From my experience, PBR (MS term - Phrase to Broad), as in exact match is better than a reversed keyword EMD. I did a test a year or 2 ago, for example:

I bought "lossweight.c0m" and "weightloss.c0m" (not those keywords ofc), and the first domain ranked high in the SERPS, and the second couldn't get any higher than 3rd page.

There is no penalty for using dashes in the url so weightloss.com should be just as good as weight-loss.com I would think (don't quote me on that though). I'm pretty sure the search engines recognize dashes as spaces so doing something like w-eightloss.com may not have the same weight as weightloss.com

Edit: also, when I say there's no penalty for using dashes I mean just one I doubt weight--loss.com would be considered a good url, that would probably be considered spam to the SEs.

I was searching for a domain name once, everything up to 5 dashes was taken, i.e. the best i could buy is weight------loss.com

But for some reason: weight--loss.com, weight---loss.com, weight----loss.com and weight-----loss.com were no where near the first 1000 results. :)

I suppose Google just ignores such a domains.

G@@gle doesn't like affiliates ranking on the first page and stuffing their crappy affiliate links to his/her visitors.

There is something I heard about that the more dashes the less weight it carries so something like weight----loss.com is very bad for seo.

The more dashes the less weight and more shady seo person you will come across to google.

However, this isn't always true some sites with exceptional content and correct link building strategies have made it to number with a dash in their domain name.

    one dash is okay

    two dashes is acceptable

    three dashes is not good

four or more is very bad

Instead of using hyphens or all that, instead try adding a rare letter to the end like an x or so.

I havent tested it myself, but that tip came from an official SEO publication, stating that google would in that case use its auto-correction system when it views it and even though your site would be something like http://weightlossx.com it would still be seen to search engines as http://weightloss.com

I say close enough to an EMD if that works!

    HTH :plane:

Edit: Noticed that domain is taken but i guess u get the concept.
