    Hi

Recently I thought of what effect it would have to post multiple articles on the same domain trying to rank for Keyword 'X' as compared to just focusing on trying to rank a single article for keyword 'Y'. There were two confusions in my mind related to all this. First that these articles (in case of multiple articles) would compete against each other for the 'X' on Google and thus would overall be a negative for an SEO campaign. Argument in favor of this approach was however that Google loves content and thus it would see the website as an authority for that topic on finding different but related content to Keyword 'X'

How I put this to test:

    1) Posted Three top-notch articles related to Keyword 'X'. X is a really HIGH competition keyword
    2) Posted a single high quality related to Keyword 'Y'. Y is medium to low competition keyword.

    3) Ran a backlinking campaign for each of the articles using exactly the same strategy for each of them. Intentionally kept the number/quality of tier 1,2 and 3 backlinks the same for all four page.

Result: Two of articles belonging to 'X' were on top of Google page 2 within just 15 days! whereas article related to 'Y' was somewhere on the 18th page!

I think most of you already knew this but this was my first experiment trying to determine Google's behavior. This could have been much better had I tried with the same keyword but on different domains to get the most correct result, however I only do SEO for my own website ;) This website has helped me a LOT so I hope this helps someone.

    Have a great day!

PS. Not saying that I know a lot but I am really happy to try this out myself so just wanted to share this!

Thanks for sharing. Personally, the one below is what I've been doing in my business (not for others as I don't offer SEO services).

In this tactic you mentioned below, we got two differences:
    1. I am using low competition keywords only.
    2. I don't run any backlinking campaign.

Since I am not offering an SEO service, I am not sure if you also call sharing of blog post links through social media as "backlinking."
When I say social media, I am referring to sharing the link of my newly-posted blog on Facebook groups, on our fan page and on twitter. Just like you, after 5 to 7 or 10 days, we're ranked on the second, third or fourth page of Google without doing a heavy backlinking campaign.

Interesting that you only got ranked using social signals! The thing that surprised me about having multiple articles related to same keyword was that although X is a very high competition kw but it shot up to page 2 within just 15 days whereas other one despite being mid comp keyword got nowhere near these results.

I don't know, perhaps, it's just me, but I strongly believe that if it's a QUALITY, as in "quality" content, it'll get ranked to the first, second and third page of Google. If your blog post gets syndicated by a considerable high number of webmasters, you'll really be surprised to wake up one day seeing it on the first or second page of Google.

I share the same advice to my clients and whenever they order content and keywords from me. They try what I personally do. Not all of them get ranked easily, though. For some of them, it takes time to get ranked without having a heavy backlinking campaign. Some of them even surprise me when they easily get ranked on the 1st-3rd page of Google in 3 to 5 days.
