I am meant to be doing some site modifications for a client, but they only have access to the hosting + cpanel accounts, not the joomla administrator. They can't get through to their old "computer guy" to get the PW and i don't think they understand that the joomla login is different to the hosting..

Is there any way to automaticaly login via cpanel? or anyway to reset the password for joomla ? it would make things a lot easier for me.

    Thanks.

    Try this one:
    stackoverflow.com/questions/10428126/joomla-password-encryption

You can change the md5 password in the database

You have to change the "admin" password which is stored in md5 hash salted format using phpmyadmin. This is the only way to reset the password. "admin" can be found in _users table.
