Yep, it's now official, the dinos *were* killed by an asteroid hitting the Earth and throwing up a dust cloud that lowered the temperature.

Dinosaurs WERE Killed By A Giant Asteroid, Researchers Confirm
    Mar. 4, 2010

WASHINGTON ? An all-star panel of researchers says it was the crash of a giant asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs.

Think you've heard that before? You're right.

In 1980, Louis Alvarez and his son Walter published a paper blaming the dinosaur extinction 65 million years ago on an asteroid impact. The probable crater was later found at Chicxulub, Mexico, and the idea gained wide scientific acceptance.

In the past few years, however, suggestions were made that the demise of the dinosaurs might have been caused by the eruption of volcanoes, known as the Deccan Traps, in India, or multiple asteroid impacts.

That prompted 41 geologists, paleontologists and other researchers to come together to review the data.

Their conclusion, published in Friday's edition of the journal Science: It was a giant asteroid striking Chicxulub that blasted a cloud around the world that led to the end of the dinosaurs.

The argument for multiple impacts isn't supported by worldwide data, and the Deccan eruptions actually began 400,000 years before the end of the dinosaurs, Kirk Johnson of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science said.

it's just a theory.. just because a bunch of so called "experts" say that it was a asteroid that kill the dinos does not mean that they are correct... our government
politician's are ment to be experts and they get it wrong everytime...

    "it's just a theory" !!!

Science is full of theories and hypothesis, they are the base of science. A theory is not an opinion, a theory require years to be publishable.

so, forget about "just a theory" argument, it says "I don't know how science work"

EDIT: Sorry if my tone is a little strong, but is because "just a theory" is what Creationists use to talk bullshit of science. Hope no offense taken

kez1000 is right- it's truly just a theory, for they never "confirmed" a thing.
So, dynander- to knock kez1000 for saying it's just a theory is illogical. Your argument was suited for if he/she had said "it's just a law", but he/she didn't say that. Do you know the difference? Between a theory and a law? I trust that it either slipped your mind or that you're competent enough to be able to look it up. Next time, know what you're talking about before you rant about people using the phrase "it's just a theory" to support an argument that holds more water than the one you just tried to make.

that's the system. when you see it from the main page it says, 'confirm'.
but on the page it says, 'conclude'.

    Haha, fair enough, Pimp.

And no, it's not a "Chicken vs Egg" argument, because there's a clear definition to the word "theory", and for it to even be supported by having taken "years to be publishable" does not garner being ridiculed for being treated exactly for what it is: NOT factual/confirmed/a scientific law.

Roll your eyes and call it a waste of time, but time I've got, and merely defending kez1000 for being right, and explaining to dynander both how he was wrong and how he might prevent making the same, bad call in the future seems like a better way to spend my time to sitting here letting the lack of logic reign.

My work here is done! Cheers all!

Well if a deadly astroid ever head toward earth again, hopefully humankind is advanced enough to deal with this problem.

maybe its true or maybe its not.But what really makes me think about is how will our world be if the mass extinction did not take place?Would the dinos have evolved into an intelligent species?I had heard that the velociraptors were pretty intelligent and very social.

I would love a big rock to hit this place and wipe us all out, if only to prove to naysayers that the universe was doing just fine before we came along, and will continue ticking without missing a beat when the last of us is gone. lol

That wouldn't prove anything to anybody because nobody would be around to see what would happen after the impact.
