Just saw this.... I know alot of you guys have been doing reputation management type services for brick and mortar businesses....the extorting other businesses to purchase your product is rather disheartening....I hope no body from BHW caused this response from ROR for extorting businesses to buy their service.... http://www.ripoffreport.com/seo-rep...gemen/reputation-management-the-new-06458.htm
Heck, there are bad apples in any industry. This is basically a long advertisement for their own services to gouge businesses for money to "fix" things. Their probably mad because it has gotten so easy to push their junk way deep in the rankings So just change your name from SEO, or Reputation Management, to a Corporate Branding Specialist.
Been doing this for a little over 3 years now and there are a LOT of scammers in ORM, they don't deliver at all, they partially deliver, they do deliver then they demand more money from the client if the client wants usernames and passwords, they hack, threaten and these are the situations which we hear over and over are not from individual service providers but actual ORM companies. Luckily, many of them have and are being arrested or at least their actions are making the news. I've seen a lot of them get exactly what they deserved, now if ppl would just realize how big of a scam Reputation.com's ORM services are. http://www foxnews com/scitech/2012/01/20/google-cide-online-reputation-managers-can-wipe-from-web/ http://www xoxohth com/thread.php?thread_id=1577058&mc=1&forum_id=2
That post has been on ROR since last year, it's hardly breaking news. If anything it's made it easier for legit providers to swoop in and close deals.
I work for an SEO firm that handles quite a bit of Rep Man accounts.. and Ripoff Report has got to be some of the sleeziest websites out there. It is true that some agencies actually do slander the biz the attempt to call them to remove the listing.. but most do not do that. Most companies have these listings looming over their business for months if not years and attempt everything they can to either remove or suppress these. I think it is pretty low ball to encourage the rebuttal feature as well because all it does is add more prominence to the listing. One trick that I found was to upload a very very very very large image to a reply, like a 10-25 mb image. This will decrease the load speed to literally like a dial up 14kb dial up connection. Over time the listing will lose rankings because of this. This is Jana's freebie Rep Man tip of the day... Enjoy! :beach2(2)
Seriously never believe anything Ed Magedson has to say. The guy is as crooked as a dog's hind leg. He's just pissed everyone is competing with his "fixit" extortion scam. Shaking down real businesses to get comments removed if they pay up. He has a lot of balls calling anyone else a crook.
From the article: "Third, you should NEVER pay anything up-front to an SEO company. Legitimate SEO companies will agree to show results before you are charged anything, so if you are asked to pay first, that's a huge red flag that should convince you to walk away immediately." Uhh, seriously? I think I've heard of one or two places that ask you to pay based on results, but I would say it's very rare for any SEO company to do any work before seeing some money. The above statement is one of the stupidest I think I've ever read. Edited: For some reason my original post cut off after the first word of the quote.
I think i'm more amazed that this guy (the owner of ROR) has nothing better to do but write like 4,000 words of content about scamming and extortion when his website is clearly doing both... Anyone else see the irony in this?
LOL! This thread is a joke, right? (The Kettle is on the phone and desperately wants to speak to Maggedson). >>>OR MAYBE<<< Maggot-boy and his ROR Monster site are getting their a$$es handed to them by the increasing number of reputation management SEO's who have cracked Maggedson's stranglehold on legal extortion (his bogus corporate citizen program). Maggot-Boy is correct when he says that every business will have disgruntled customers. Sometimes these customers write posts on ROR that cause small businessmen to offer terms to settle the dispute. But then after customer and businessman settle up, why won't Maggot-Boy respect the customer's wishes to take down the complaint? Simple, this Vampire won't make any money if he doesn't keep the misery going. And why is Maggot Boy always dodging process servers and lawyers who are rightfully bringing class action lawsuits against him, giving several states as his home residence? And is Google finally cracking down on ROR's violation of its Terms Of Service, notably the keyword stuffing that automatically gets programmed into every ROR complaint profile? (Panda da big b*tch, right Maggot??) Maggot Boy claims ROR is not liable for damages from false complaints that jump on Google's first page and ruin family businesses. What is Maggot's excuse, you may ask? Simple. Maggot claims that ROR should be considered a user-generated site like Facebook or MySpace where the user is ultimately liable for the falsehoods he posts. Facebook can't be held legally responsible for any slander posted there, and Maggot claims neither should ROR. So if this is the case, then why does Maggot not allow users to take down their content and suspend their posts, like Facebook (and every other legit 2.0 site)??? Two-Faced Maggot, does Facebook keep slander posts up and running and then charge the victims an ongoing fee to address these libels?? After reading Magedson's whiny article about reputation seo's, my eyes filled with tears . .from laughter. Magedson's obviously getting pinched. Maybe pretty soon, Maggot will get desperate for money and he'll get busted again for selling marijuana like he did before he started his ROR scam.
Yeah, I mean every time zi go to buy a new car they let me use for a few months before I decide to pay. Sheesh. What an idiot.
The site was trying to build up reputation as an authority in this field. Actually never thought of charging my clients for managing stuff like this, I always include this as a free bonus coupled with the services I also offer...
