[REP] Easy question about Alexa

Hey guys,

Got a simple question for ya - if a domain is:

a) being hosted on a suspended hosting account

-or-

b) not being hosted by anyone at all

will alexa still keep track of visits to that site and thus give it a ranking on alexa.com?

Please only answer if you know for a fact you are correct.

Not sure about B,but for A i'm sure your alexa will still give it ranking,happened to me last week,one of my hosting account got suspended(didnt pay in time)
yet my alexa rank for those days was updated(increased btw)
Use TamperData in conjunction with alexa toolbar,you will see for yourself whats it sending

alexa calculates thier ranking by the number of visits from people with the alexa toolbar, nothing to do with a bot or spider.

If you click more info, it tells you how many people visited with the alexa tool bar in the previous 6 months.

Yeah, and bear in mind Alexa is a 3 month rolling average so even if the domain is getting no traffic it could still have a high Alexa - I've got some 100k Alexa's that get about 2 UV's a day now lol

I'm trying to wrap my head around this.... what if its a 3 month old domain that just started getting traffic? I'm guessing this happend to your domain because its new?

Well gradually your Alexa rank will increase. When you look in Alexa you will see your daily/weekly rank a lot higher than your rolling average. Correct, so initially your rank will start high and eventually lower as time goes on.

For example, my site was 5k Alexa in the UK - but 250k worldwide (see JNR VIP for my method

)

Have a browse around Alexa and how it works, you'll probably get a better idea than me at 11.30pm on a sunday
