Removing "category"

I had a problem earlier that I couldn't remove the default links to the wordpress site, as well as removing the archives didnt work. Now I removed them by putting in a custom menu. The links to the wordpress site and archives are both gone now. but now there is 1 problem left.

The map with "category" is still there. With the links to the posts I made, buth with the custom menu its showing my links again, so what i mean to say is i see my links double, and i'd like to remove categories so just my custom menu is in the sidebar.

Anyone know where I could do that? Or if there is a plugin for it? Or what do I need to edit?

Go to your site WP's dashboard -> plugins -> install new -> search for "No category parents" install and activate.

This plugin will completely remove the mandatory 'Category Base' and all the parents from your category permalinks (e.g. /category/parent-category/my-category/ to /my-category/). By Sergio Milardovich.
