    Hi guys,

i read about removing Ganalytics just yesterday due to google may seeing your bounce rates and then ranking you down. So on i went, installed Piwik and removed Ganalytics. Checking the ranking of one of my sites which was constantly #3 for the specific Keyword now for over 2 months suddenly dropped to something like #7-8.

    What do you reckon?

It is possible, that google saw changes in site's content, and now recalculating it's position.
Give it some time (week or two).
Please report here, if the rankings won't change.

I did read on Matt Cutts blog that having some of Googles products will help your ranking. He specifically mentioned webmasters tools but GA could play a part as well. On the other hand it may just be because you modified the page. It may take a couple of weeks to reasses and regain its placing. Did you change the title/description at the same time?

    Keep us updated.

Thats what got me confused as the only thing i changed was removing the Ganalytics Code and adding my own Piwik one. Well i guess i just have to give it some time.

There you go back to #3 again. Hope it stays that way. Might even improve since google can't see people jumping off the page most of the time ^^.

This is called Ranking Dance when you edit something in your current site :) No worry about it man. When you modify something, Google will need some time to update the new content in your site, in that time the ranking dance in around 1-2 days then return to normal.

Looks like you are back at number 3 which is good. I think Google looks at changes in a site very closely. I tried to cross promote a related product in my site and changed the banner.

Went from 8 to 70. OUCH! I learned a lesson the hard way. This is all that I did though. I am hoping that it will come back at least a little bit although it has already been 6 days :(

I dunno about the dance. Page ranks now still #9 and something else happend. The clicks i got before removing earned me something around 0,25€-0,30€ per click. Now on #9 and whithout analytics i earn like 0,08-0,10€ per click.

I guess i will leave it without analytics for antother week. After that i will put it back on again and see what happens.

I have wordpress and the analytics plugin. To completely remove analytics I just have to cancel the plugin or do I need to do something else?

I'm afraid of getting slapped by google as I heard of many people getting sites slapped that had analytics on them and the ones that didn't have it nothing happened to them.

Of course it depends on what you are doing and how bad it is from Google's perspective, but in general I think it is actually helpful, especially in the first year of a site's life, to install Google Analytics. If you start backlinking like crazy and have no demonstrable traffic to support having all those backlinks, Google will punish you and put you in the sandbox. That is all the sandbox is, a purgatory for sites with too many backlinks and not enough traffic to justify all those backlinks. If you have the traffic, or buy the traffic, and Analytics is installed, it will see the traffic and it helps prevent sandboxing. If Google is blind from no Analytics or has to resort to crap stats like Alexa, you will get sandboxed because there is no evidence of any real traffic despite all those backlinks. How can a site be so popular with no traffic? Because the backlinks aren't real, Google thinks, and in the sandbox you go.

This can resolve itself eventually as Alexa finds you, but it takes months or as long as a year. If you just put Analytics on the site from the beginning and show traffic to justify your backlinks, you will likely avoid the sandbox completely.

Don't make rash paranoid decisions about Analytics unless there really is a reason to be paranoid.
