I initially used CSS to remove visible links in my articles to the 'next' article on my site and 'previous' article on my site.

Clearly, I hadn't thought this through, as today I went into the Webmaster Tools > 'internal links' and noticed that it's still in the source code, and so in Google Webmaster Tools, it's showing that articles have internal backlinks from a few other articles, even if they don't relate to eachother.

Do you think this could be doing my site harm? I'm thinking it would be best to remove the <div class="single-prev-next"> from my site.

If your intent was to remove them.. I'd continue with that task.. then split test your rankings and see if they go up or down..

None of us "truly" ever know what Google is going to do.. but split testing helps us know "how they think" when they make ranking changes..

Common sense suggests not to link to pages that aren't related to each other, but then again, we're not talking about common sense, we're talking Google.

Just add "nofollow" tags to the next/previous links and keep them.

What's the difference between doing that though and removing the function? They're currently invisible via CSS.
