It's funny how things keep getting redirected to other people.

My thread is in violation of the rules as they are today. I'm not denying that nor redirecting the blame.

Honestly I wasn't aware of that rule, and seeing as several moderators have seen the thread and not closed it, I guess I'm not the only one.

So to be 100% clear; Your decision to close it was 110% correct.

This thread (another one of mine) is also in violation of that rule as it links to Google Spreadsheet (any website):

I'm glad you agree that the rules should be clarified, which is the entire point of this thread.

Great entertainment for my lunch break, looking forward what's going to happen

Popcorn for lunch?

You Mom would not be happy to know that. Mine sure wouldn't either and she has been gone for 20 years or so.

The freebies section needs to be cleaned up in the same manner the mobile marketing section had to be cleaned up years ago. The rule clarifications for the freebies section were already being worked on as of yesterday.

Whilst I agree that the rules need to be clarified in that section, I am against permitting members to link to their own website. I can see that it would be liberating to allow genuine members to link to their own websites. However, when refining rules, it's important to take the entire community into account rather than adjusting rules to suit a handful of members. To be more specific, we must not only make sure the rules are inundating (otherwise, members will be less likely to follow them), but we must also consider how members can find loopholes, lest we forget we're on Black Hat World, the forum where everyone is looking for loopholes. I'm not saying you would look for loopholes, but others most definitely would. It's a balancing act that requires careful consideration of how it'll affect both moderators and members alike.
It is really not.

Enforcing the rules as they sit are what the staff does. We do the best we can when enforcing the rules and keeping the place clean.

Granted it was a nice giveaway but it was deemed outside the rules by a staff member.
I don't think anyone quite understands we can't make exceptions to the rules. We get enough tu quoque arguments with the rules we do enforce, so I can't imagine explaining why I made an exception for member A and not member B. I can already see the "personal bias" and "corrupt" comments flooding my inbox.
How is the weather outside guys? It is raining in here.
It's nearly four AM and it's a clear night.

I'm aware of what someone can do using some web page of his, but how can he possibly make an indexing giveaway without making an alternative script/website?
enforcing the rules is a must, but you are not robots after all and you can manage to keep the giveaway open somehow,
or ruin one of the huge and best community giveaways (which is already done)

I'm sure there were plenty of ways to find a solution to prevent any possible problem using this webpage, hosting the script in BHW for example (contributing with @yakuzaemme if he agrees to ofc) but its already late as he's pissed and I don't expect any more efforts for just a giveaway

Thanks again for the work done for this @yakuzaemme, you helped a lot of people in here

As @Zwielicht stated above, we can't make exceptions, no matter the contributions someone makes. It's not about being a robot, it's just that we have to enforce the rules so that the forum is level playing field for everyone.

Personally, if I were conducting the giveaway, I'd have asked for members to either PM or post in the thread with the link they wish to be indexed, and then manually input it myself. If yakuzaemme is able to find a way to conduct his giveaway without redirecting member's off-forum, then it would be perfectly fine to reopen the giveaway.

I don't think yakuzaemme seems pissed, and I'm sure he's a lot more reasonable than you're giving him credit for.

That's great. Is there something I can change with the index giveaway that would adhere to the updated rules?

I am against permitting members to link to their own website.
You said so yourself, this is BHW, loopholes will be found. Can my friend host the website?

The only way that would work is to have a list of allowed domains to share (similar to allowed file hosting websites), which would require constant updating as IM changes everyday.

I don't think anyone quite understands we can't make exceptions to the rules.

You should never make exceptions - this is the very reason I love BHW.
I'm sorry if this threads comes off like I'm asking for an exception, that's not my intention.

I don't see this happening, but I wouldn't mind.
On my BHW Signature Tracker service (now deleted), I sent the full code + database to a staff member, should they want to look at the code or use it themself for whatever reason.

The final draft will need to be presented to the forum owner. Once it receives his approval, you'll be able to view them in the freebies section.

Was that intentional, by any chance? Regardless, it's a good example of how members try to find loopholes.

Of course, my personal convictions aren't rules and I did not state whether I'm against someone linking to their friend's website.

Precisely, as creating a list of websites that frequently becomes outdated is not ideal.

The solution to this conundrum may not be clear at the moment, but I wouldn't go as far as saying there's only one way.

What you've brought forth here will be taken into consideration with the new freebies section rules.

Looking forward to it! I appreciate that the staff will take it into consideration.

I've broken the rule 2158 times (2158 Google Spreadsheet links) in this thread.
As I don't want to continue breaking the rules, can you lock it please, until further clarification has been given? Thanks!

Looks like Voltaire was not so mad after all about democracy, at least on BHW it applies.

This thread has taken more turns than an F1 race at Silverstone.

Voltaire, Mod Abuse by eating @Jammie Dodger cookies, guy eating Salmon, rules adjustments and explanations, weather reports, information, disinformation and generic commentary.

I need to get a bigger boat to participate in this thread.
