Register.com costs $30 a year for owning my domain name. I'd this a rip off?

Should I change registrar's? Who do you think is better than register.com to transfer my domain name too?

They've actually been a pain in the ass to work with in general so I wouldn't mine moving my domain regardless.

Thanks!

$30 for just the name? I paid around $8 for a year sub plus a .com domain it was shared hosting. Renewal for the same thing was $40. Look elsewhere mate. For that price you could get your domain name as well as some form of hosting at least. It was namecheap can't remember any downtime and was hitting around 10k visitors per day. So they are not that bad.

I've also wondered about this recently. There are still registrars charging U$ 35 for .com's.

Maybe they just want the registrar status for database access and don't actually wanna sell domains.

are you sure its just the domain you are paying for? $35 is almost standard price for domain + hosting. If its just the domain then get the fuck away from them.

My website is hosted on Shopify. The cost might include email maybe but still. Register's website is also annoying as fuck to use.

If you don't want to pay more than you should, then yes choose another provider.

Sounds like a lot but it depends on the domain name and the demand for it.
