I have heard that .edu emails have 100% inbox rate...how true is this? or is there a way around it?

It is very true. I had a .edu domains almost for 5 years as i was running a training institute recognised by the government. The .edu domain was granted through the official channel and it is alloted for 5 years in India. While my offline business wound up in 2 years i did keep the domain for the full 5 years. My mails never used to get bounced.

Lol how am I going to get that. Are there any websites or services I could use to find one? I've searched Google not much about registering a .edu without being a member of the university.

Pretty much impossible as you need to have a registered educational institution in your name to get hold of that.
