Redirecting Backlinks From Domain A To Domain B

Guys, i had a site with more than 50,000 backlinks but I have lost all files of that site due to some issues. Now what I have is just the domain of that site. May I ask if I do 301 redirect from that domain to my another site, would all the link juice from that domain get passed to my another site? But why when I was checking my backlinks from Yahoo Site Explorer to my new site, the backlinks amount is just exactly the same as before I redirected my older site?

A 301 redirect will retain all link juice and PR. Site explorer won't show any new backlinks to your new domain. I've just done this myself.

Just last week I set up a 301 redirect:

olddomain.com -> newdomain.com

My old domain had 30k backlinks according to Yahoo Site Explorer, and ranked around #4-5 for my target keyword.

The redirect and new domain has just been crawled and indexed, and my new domain (which bear in mind is brand new and has no backlinks) is ranking #13 for the keyword.

I'm *hoping* that the cause for the small drop in SERP is due to either the 'Google dance', or change from an aged domain to a brand new one. Nevertheless, my keyword is fairly competitive, so for a brand new domain to be ranking near the top of the second page goes to show the the link juice was passed.

301 represents "this content has permanently moved here." Accordingly, all authority, trust, and popularity is transferred to the new location.

It works. I took a trial customer from spot 63 to spot 3 for his keyword in about a week using 301. Then, when he decided he didn't want to use my service I removed the redirect and he's gone back to where he was...

Yes it works, I have done it with my domains... Yahoo site explorer will never show you links but you can see improvement in SERP and that's what matters...
