Redirect Homepage to the Latest Post Brings Good Rank ?

Good morning, everyone.

So here it is, I noticed that one of my competitors, who has an anime site, uses a particular seo technique. His technique works perfectly for him and he is able to rank quickly as soon as an episode is released in his website.
It is not affected by recent google algorithms and the site is about two years old.
So what he does, is he uses a 302 redirection (yes, 302 and not 301) to redirect the home page (root domain) to the last article (so the last episode). As a result, the website does not have a home page.
Do you know this method? Do you know how it works so well?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

So he redirects www.hisdomain.com/ to www.hisdomain.com/LatestPost?

302 technically means a temporary redirect, whereas a 301 is permanent. There has been speculation that 302's pass more link juice, but that was a long time ago and Google has supposedly changed the way it treats 301s since then (so that 301s pass full juice).

There is no reason why redirecting from one page to another wouldn't work. The simpler solution would be to put the latest video on the home page.

As soon as he redirects to a new page, all juice going to the former latest video will be lost. So he will rank the latest video, but not the former latest video.

In fact, he ranks well, even on the previous posts/videos.
But he has the list of all latest post on the homepage.

Then why don't you try same method? If it works for him, try to use it for you, maybe it will work for you.

As someone else mentioned, it's weird that he isn't just putting the latest video on the homepage.

It sounds like an easy way to get penalized though. Although, I have no clue what the heck the penalty would be, nor do I have any evidence of this being an actionable item. It just looks really fishy.
