Is anyone getting any traffic from this site? As I understand it, it is suposed to be one of the big sites.

I have litle luck my self. Any strategies to drive good traffic from it?

Reddit is very good for Google ranking. It seems that if you get at least 2 points, you will get indexed by Google in a few hours.

Your question, though, was traffic. Have not seen much direct traffic from Reddit, but I have not done a good job of getting my site to the front page. At least, not yet.

Something I have tried on reddit before was starting the title of a thread like this:

"WTF: Women gets tasered by police", "Bitch be cool" "Make a fuck ton of money online." is usually good for a quick 100 or so hits. It doesnt get you to the front page but those bad words seem to make people, especially on sites like reddit, interested.

Reddit seems to be a hit or miss for me. Some days I can get good traffic from it. And then hardly nothing on some days. I guess like Whodi said, you just gotta know what headlines to put up.

I've used reddit almost since it came out, mostly as a user but occasionally for ranking too. I can tell you a couple 'social engineering' things about it that could help you get your submissions on the front page, or at least secure enough votes so that you'll get a nice link.

As someone else mentioned, you need at least 2 votes for a do-follow link. That can often be very hard to get, especially with the flag nazis, and the huge volume of sites that are constantly submitted. Unless you've got a few accounts with a decent amount of karma, it's likely that you may not be able to bump yourself up to over 2 votes. The good thing about reddit is that you can reg an account instantly without an email address.

What you need to know most of all is the reddit demographic. Someone did a poll and the average user age was 24-25 years old. So keep that in mind and tailor your articles towards a younger male, extremely liberal audience. Another point to consider is that they're also fairly smart/savvy. If your submission sucks, it will fail. Simple as that. With that in mind, here are a few themes that could get you to the front page. I'll gear this with political stories in mind because that's what i tend to read, and they're typically the big vote getters.

    • Reddit LOVES obama. Anything related, especially anything that puts him in a favorable light.
    • Reddit HATES anything that doesn't have a liberal bias. Don't waste your time on conservative viewpoints or articles unless they're extreme, and 100% legitimate.
    • You may get a little play with ron paul or dennis kucinich, but not enough to tempt the reddit hive-mind and get a huge vote count.
    • Reddit HATES injustice. Find a heartbreaking story - with pics if possible - a quick rewrite and you're on your way.
    • Reddit LOVES sensational headlines. Spin your submissions with a sensational angle. This is especially useful when you're submitting a political story as you can hit a trifecta with it: Get a liberal bias theme in which there has been an injustice caused, presumably by bush or a conservative/republican, and add a sensational headline. That's almost a guaranteed top 10.
    • Reddit HATES Israel. It's kind of ironic in a way, but then again, they're for the underdogs. Pro palestine/anti israel articles do very well
    • Reddit is PRO marijuana. But hey, who isn't? ;)
    • Reddit is intrigued by *****. While there are a lot of /b/ tards on there, there are many that aren't. Since going to /b/ is like watching a trainwreck to begin with, you can easily draw in those non /b/ tards that can't look away. Don't bother with NSFW though, that doesn't seem to get traction.

One idea that i'm almost positive would do well based on current events. Build a simple Boycott Kellogs site. It's got everything - Pro marijuana, pro underdog, and an injustice by a big corporation. It would even be pretty easy to monetize. Anyone that's graphically inclined could make up some neat tshirt designs from zazzle for instance and make a few coins.

Anyways, i'm rambling, and it's probably not on topic as far as blackhat goes, but when done right, a little creative social engineering is often the best blackhat tactic you can use.

    • Thanks Thanks x 5
