    Hey guys

Well following on from this thread http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/613798-my-8-year-old-pr2-site-bombed.html

It is now the 20th of October and enough time has now passed to safely say that the filthy penguin 2.1 results have stabilised and my site has still no where to be found.

I am going to start to remove the backlinks that I'm able too (mainly forum and profile) and Disavow the rest of the "bad" links. Notice how I said bad links? I have a few good links too, mainly on citation sites and business directories. My website is a local business so these are important. My link also appears on other sites that are in the same niche as mine. I used to have a links page with link partners which I removed, so I have around 10 - 20 one way backlinks pointing to my site from other peoples links page. These are decent right?

So this is my plan to recover from the retarded Penguin. I'll start in a few hours by removing 10 links and some ever night till all the crap links are gone.

I'm going to start with the links webmaster tools can see of which there are 1,426 from 242 urls.

    Any other tips guys?

I'll post progress on here if and when there is any!

    thanks

well there doesn't seem to much interest in this! lol i'll post results anyway.

So far tonight I have manually deleted 4 URL's with a total of 504 backlinks. These 4 websites where all forums, my link was in the sig, hence the amount of links and once in the profile. The anchor of these backlinks is my main keyword and that's why I think I have been penalized, over use of the same anchor link with crappy links.

So, 4 urls down 238 to go! lol on a more positive note = 504 taken of the 1426 so 922 to go. << some of these links will be staying however!

Will be doing a lot more tomorrow. Mainly profiles and forums again. Blog posts will need to be disavow.

I may even post which sites the links where on.

Ya mate I would say outsource the work. As you noticed this shit sucks and can take forever to do. There are cheap services like linkdelete that will do it for you and for cheap too. I dunno about you but after like 1 hour of working on removing links I wanted to kill myself.

Not a good use of your time. Just like you bought links and used a service use a service to clean it up.

Good luck though I am anxious to see your results.

    Hi guys

The links I am deleting are still showing up in WMT's.

Would pinging the url's of the pages my domain used speed up the removal process??

You dont need to worry about that, Google WMT isn't what Google is actually seeing internally. WMT updates are delayed by as much as 8 weeks.

I am seeing massive increases in the number of pages showing for alot of terms. This could by why the serps are still jumping. I have seen niches with 900k now with 23 million pages. I haven't seen this discussed but if you have researched your niche properly you should be able to see if your niche suddenly got an influx of pages added to your term.

Indeed, the numer of indexed page for a query is actually changing, going from 220k to 9500k .

ok thanks. I'm now finished deleting the links that I was able to do manually. I.e. forums and profiles. For the rest I.e. blog comments and link directories i'll be using the disavow tool.

my link structure was soooo bad! 80% at least where the exact same three word keyword I was targeting.

interesting. can you find out how many pages where indexed before? for example, a month ago?

Its not something I had to track before as I was always top and never had to do any work to the site as my competition was so bad.

This is all good stuff and a great conversation once you filter out opinion vs. fact. My 6 yr. old PR3 site was hit by P2 around the beginning of September as well. I got the message about unnatural linking, so I discounted it as just a warning, and did nothing, and lo and behold, while I was on the first page for years...now my site is nowhere to be found unless I search for the exact website name. Zero traffic.

I paid a service to remove the bad links (there were many, many hundreds), which happened about 2 weeks ago. It's speculation, but my hunch is that those Russian, Japanese and non-USA links did the nasty to me, along with overused anchor text. I stopped all link building strategies (most of them found right here), and am currently searching for a service to ensure that my links are more quality-oriented and relevant to my business. Anyway, after 2 tries, my manual spam action was revoked (hooray) and my site was supposedly forgiven.

From ahrefs, WT, Cog SEO, and a few others that don't come to mind right now, I see that the other pages on my site are becoming indexed again, and I see that the traffic is increasing nicely, but my site is still nowhere to be found for my keywords yet. Interestingly, my secondary pages are showing up on the 3-5 page of SERPS, but the money page is nowhere to be found, at least not yet, which causes me lost sleep. I'm told that PR also may have a bearing on how quickly your site returns to the living....we'll see.

I am now watching my backlinks like a hawk, and removing any that look suspicious. I'm going to beef-up my social networking/marketing, start a blog (looking for someone to manage it), and most importantly, I need to find a reputable backlink building service that I can trust. If anyone has any suggestions, especially regarding a backlink service that will only use USA backlinks and trickle them over the period of 30-days, I'm open to any suggestions.

    Thanks!

When my unnatural link warning was removed it took like 3 weeks to recover the rankings. How long has it been for you now that it has been revoked.

White Hat doesn't save you from anything. Black, blue, green, orange, they are all the same hats in the end which equals manipulation of search engines.

My penalty was revoked on Oct. 10th, so next Thursday will be 3 weeks. That makes me feel slightly better, although I'm still in the panic mode of looking for more 'reputable' link building services. Have you pursued any SEO since the revoked penalty and are you being more careful with your campaigns? I'd be interested in any link building services you are looking into.

Removing the unnatural link warning is great and is the right start, but you may not be out of the clear yet. If secondary pages of your site are bouncing back but your money page is still AWOL, you could potentially also have an algorithmic penalty (like Penguin).

And Tony, you don't get GWT warnings for algorithmic penalties - only manual.
