my rankings dropped by exactly 30 a day after adding an affiliate link, is it possible to recover from this by masking the link or am i fucked?

also when I'm masking to the directory mysite.com/derp/aff

I should setup robots like this, right?

User-agent: *
Disallow: /derp/*

It might be not a penalty , if you have not received any email ,

have you tried any other keywords

You might just need to on site seo fixed . HOWEVER I WONT RULE out affilate link as it was done on site . try removing and waiting for couple of days .

doesn't look good bro :(

@deserte most helpful post of the year!!!

anyway, to reply to the topic...wait for a few days and see how things go. Don't panic after just a few hours. Google likes dancing with websites

Main rule, hide your affiliate links, disallow them in robots.txt, via java scripts and internal redirects.

Your situation looks for me as dance, do you really not build links? I have lots of websites going up and down, but main rule is that they always come back stronger and after heavy (I mean HEAVY) link building this dance periods are shorter each time. It;s like punching bell - first amplitude are largest, then decrease each time.

Don't worry, just build more sites :)

Well, I do build links, but I've not built any in like, 2 weeks, and all I did then was blast my 2.0's. Yesterday I found a nice aff link related to one of my posts, and today this happened. No mail from G tho..

Could you perhaps pm me for some help on cloaking a link? I can mask it to mysite.com/aff and nofollow it but I'm pretty much clueless beyond that

Doesn't look like a penalty to me. Looks more like Panda, but I'm not aware of the Panda filter having been run in recent weeks.

look at these php functions -

base64_encode
base64_decode

you can make file like 123.php, put it into dir like /123/ and restrict in robots.txt, then pass encoded aff link to this php script which decode aff and with header function redirect to your url, if you like, you can also ban all bots/bot ips in this directory, if they obey robots, so what are they doing there?

additionally hide your link in html via javascript partially encode it via java script variables, this also can put out some scrapper bots too.

Not looking like a problem mate , seems like a google Dance , dont worry , take it easy on any work on onsite .

Keep on doing link building .

Above all wait for atleat 14 days so have best answer of whats happening .
