Recommended Resources to Identify Niche and How to Monetize?

Good day all! Anyone have good resources on best ways to identify good niche areas and best ways to monetize? I would like to add that I might actually be trying to confirm the niche area I am looking to blog about is worth it. It is going to be centered on technology - and may be a bit for technical wonks. In other words, I am first trying to confirm whether the niche would be good to go into and then figure out how to monetize.

I understand that this type of stuff doesn't happen without the grinding - but want to be also smart up front.
