I'm after using wp3 as a cms for a small site but I haven't found a theme that lets me get rid of the blog stuff on the static pages, categorises, archives and so on. It's a nightmare to edit the files so I want a control panel of some type.

The idea is that it should look like a site with a blog not a blog with a site, if you can recommend something preferably in black I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks aamcle

Have you looked at flexsqueeze pages?? Some of those might fit into your requirements. They are super customizable.

Or you could just make a static html/css homepage, that's what i do with 2 of my sites. Works pretty well. :p

You need to hard code the theme for such customization, but the easy way is to edit wordpress settings(Reading), and make a static page as your home page, then have a link at top menu to your blog/posts. Or you can use some themes like studiopress.com themes (you can find them here), will allow to easily have a blog style using page template, while you have a magazine/site style on homepage.
