Looking for any kind of substantive information on the current state of DMOZ with regard to SEO. Is it still valuable? If so, how valuable? Compared to Yahoo, etc...?

There's about 20 other threads with the text "DMOZ" in the title, but tbh most look quite lame, however one particular thread has a great post by dotcomdesigns that is a "must read":

    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/421408-dmoz-listing.html#post4027486

Also, any 1st-hand accounts of getting a DMOZ submission accepted. How long ago, how many tries did it take, etc... Did anyone pay to get a DMOZ listing and if so how much? Did anyone get scammed into paying (lol) and if so how much did they lose? Looking for more recent accounts, although "back in the olden days" threads might be useful for context. I've read that DMOZ is becoming less & less valuable, maybe they are not even processing submissions anymore?

DMOZ is a directory which will provide you a very high PR back link. nothing else. But think the hassle that you have to bear before you get the link. You have to wait around 1 year. Is it a joke? No need to have that link I think.

I am also unaware of the facts about DMOZ.
I think it is relatively new in this arena and need some time to get people used to it.

Every single directory which is selective in their approval process has a great value G's eyes. It has been confirmed in a Matt's conference
In the DMOZ case, it worth submitting your website but you have to not rely on them for your SEO strategy.

Benefit depends on your category, largely. If you appear in a non-popular category, your benefit will be zero. Should your site get listed in a popular category with low competition it will be very bebeficial.
