Last week my site was spotted on several giants like Engadget, Techcrunch and many many many other sites. But now i rank for nothing, and i didn't do any blackhat stuff. Is it possible that Google handed me a penalty or what is going on, i already submitted a reinstate request but that will take 2 weeks at least. Received those backlinks on Wednesday thanks to a article that i wrote, thursday night i lost everything position that i had. Now my site only receives traffic from Google images.

How long has it been? Those are editorial links from high authority sites, it would be very normal to see some dancing, after which you are more than likely to come back way higher than you were.

I also thought that Google dancing doesn't exist anymore.

Google dancing definitely still exists. I'm 100% sure.

Those big sites could not have been the problem. Though I also would have come to the same conclucion like you. However, you should not forget that some other sites are also frequesntly updating their sites just like you. They are also building backlinks and probably doing it in a more massive way than you.

Google is constantly updating their database with new indexed web pages. Therefore, you too should also not be contented when you see yourself on the first page. Try to update your sites and run an intensive research of where your backlinks are really coming from. It could be that those backlinks are also coming from sites you never even knew about. Those other sites could also be the ones working against you negatively. Check those big sites and you would discover that you are not the only one getting backlinks from them. There are many other sites and those sites might not have been negatively affected in any way.

Properly understanding the rise and fall of a site in the search engines is a very complicated issue. Very unpredictable that even Google does not fully understand how to really rank sites. That is why they keep changing their so-called algorithm time and time again. Just study your sites again, look at all backlinks, look at the state of the site in the Google Webmaster Tools and you would likely know where to start again. It is not a lost battle. Maintaining a website online is a continuous process and you should never be contented with your search engine position, even if you are no. 1 in Google.

I understand but my site was already having 5k visitors from Google, and that normally doesn't go away in 1 way. And Google seemed to love my site since it was almost doubling every month. The site i run is not some cheap adsense site or whatever, i write long tutorials, articles etc sometimes evem more than 10 a day. Our site also doesn't target 1 keyword, i'm ranking for so many keywords and search queries.

You may need to carry out a research on where your backlinks are coming from. Do not just draw conclusion on those big sites. Like I said, there are probably thousands of sites getting backlinks from those same big sites.

If I were you, I would not just be focused in one direction. There is need to even look at the structure of your site and the types of things you installed. For instance, the google bots could even have taken ordinary thrid party analytics code is malicious codes on your site intended to artificially boost your search ranking. Anything could be responsible.

There was a thing called the google dance, then that went away, and now the term is used to describe stuff like this.

Well, topic focus is a part of the recent algorithmic update, so if your site is too broad on the topic spectrum, even having big links won't save you. Matt Cutts always talks about the user experience, so if your content is at all confusing to the user, you might see some dropping as well.

Also, quantity of posts isn't as important as so many people around here think, so 10 posts in a day may actually be a bad idea, try one well researched post every couple of days.

You have to study your competitors, not just link count/source, but content frequency and on-page SEO.

BTW, the "Google dance" is an overused phrase by people who think they know what they're talking about, and it's not common for a site to jump up, then fall in the ranks in a short period. A site with good SEO will move consistently up through the ranks. If your site doesn't have consistent rankings, that means that Google doesn't know what to do with your site (from a site-wide perspective).

Those backlinks are just a example, if Engadget takes over your article there are thousands of techblog that make their own article but also include my url. I have checked my site several times for malicious code but couldn't find anything. It was already getting 5k of organic traffic daily, and it's now only 200 from Google images. Very annoying, worked very hard on it and i did not do any blackhat stuff to it, but will keep building unique content en hope the reinstate request will open Google's eyes.

Like i said, the articles are all well researched and not some rewritten stuff. I spend a lot of time building it, and Google seemed to like it and i was growing steadily but quickly. After Engadget etc picked up, i couldnt be more happy, but now i'm nowhere.

Is your hosting plan enough to handle 110k a day? If googlebot tries to reach your site but fails multiple times a decrease could occur.
Also the links you've recently acquired may be too powerful for your overall link strength. If thats the case your site should return at a much better ranking.

Yeah it was, there were a few timeouts but these were fixed a half hour later. I also suspect that these links may be too powerful, any idea how long something like this may take, or should Google see it when reviewing my reinstate request?

I feel strongly that you are google dancing. You got massive amounts of links from very high profile websites, google is trying to figure out where to put you in its index for your keywords. Which is a very good thing. I would expect you to come out of the dance and capture some very high rankings for your keywords.

When you got ******** backlinked (no matter how many, just one is enough) from authority sites, you will be out of the SERP's for like 2/3 weeks and then get back stronger. People call this "google dance".

It's stronger than ever. You'll suffer some fall and then you'll see the good results. I guess this will be a common rule after the big G update. Just wait and dont change anything :) The fear/paranoid can make you brick good things on your site.
