Hey guys,

since I'm not that active in the Youtube scene anymore, I opened this thread in hope to get some ideas or inspriation.

I'm considering picking up my old channel and rebranding it. I created the channel in a specific music niche over 7 years ago and was quite active for about 2 years. I only did this as a hobby and due to other responsibilities I stopped and didn't touch it again.

Now I might want to get into the Youtube game again and also focus more on the monetization (not necessarily Adsense revenue, but also CPA or affiliate marketing if possible).

Since the popularity of the topic I made videos for went down over time, I'm thinking about rebranding the channel either to a broader niche (still kind of related to my old niche) or to 'reset' the channel and to take advantage of the age and amount of subscribers (about 15k), but starting something complete new. Going with the latter option would result in deleting about 200 videos, which made me about 1.5mio Views over the whole period of 7 years.

I'm wondering what would be the better option and for which reasons.

If the niche wouldn't have a downwards-trend the decision would be way easier to make, that's why I opened the thread to get some ideas, pros/cons and other input that might help me.

I appreciate any mindful input from you, guys.

Sincerely

Care! To be honest, creating content with your strong theme and top of the page is a great thing. If it's the second option, I think the topic will also have to be relevant to your niche topic but expand it, instead of changing it on your original channel, create a whole new channel. and use your main channel to redirect your audience to the new channel. Those are just my thoughts, so I want to learn more from everyone!

I made a big mistake on one of my recent channels I tried to rebrand it and post a different niche on it and it backfired. The best thing to do is just to make a whole new channel that way that niche will takeover that channel instead of confusing your older viewers who sometimes like to rebel against the new content that pops up on the channel.

Yea, I thought this might backfire aswell, but what about 'soft-reseting' the channel? Like, mixing my previous options together with deleting the videos (because they represent the brand with logo/name in the videos) and creating a new name. But instead of going into a whole new niche, I'd go into the broader niche, which is still related to the old one.. just broader. In that case my subscribers / audience wouldn't be that off from the topic.

Hmmm....

Soft-resetting might work better as long as it's related to the niche as my problem was I went into a totally different niche so I think this might work for you without having to go into a whole new channel.

Alright, thank you guys for your input. I'll think about more ideas, how to make the transition, which niche, the brand etc., so if anyone has anything more to bring into this discussion, feel free to do so.
