Getting suggestions to start using a windows VPS so I can get around my internet speed issue when dealing with IM stuff (specifically mass planner)... and I was thinking about doing some Youtube stuff too.

What I'm kind of wondering though is... (and this is a longshot). There's probably no way I can use remote desktop to upload youtube videos off my own desktop PC right? Since.. I would probably have to copy them over remote desktop first, and it would end up taking just as long as uploading from my crappy PC?

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. If you were to download videos, edit, and upload all from the machine then you would have better speed.

Yeah you better find a way to do it all on the VPS otherwise it's pretty slow process.

Thanks for the information. I knew that but just kind of wanted to confirm.

So now I know for sure that the only way I can speed up my Youtube upload is... Doing everything directly from the remote PC. But do you guys think there are any affordable (remote desktop) services out there that will be able to do video editing/rendering? Not to mention, allowing me to install adobe premier and other softwares I need to use?

I guess I'm just not sure of the remote PC's capabilities. Under the impression that video editing stuff requires a good GPU, and then also assuming those services don't use any GPU.

I guess I'll have to start looking. But just worried the ones I do find will bankrupt me because of the video editing stuff.

You're looking at a small fortune for a remote with a GPU. With that being said you can render with a CPU. But the normal Virtual core at about 1.3Ghz will take you a very long time, if not crash on you while it does it. Best to maybe invest in a better at home.

Ya :( thats what I was thinking. No joke, going to find a new place to live. Sad/funny thing is... I still have 4 years on my mortgage I will probably have to wait for lol

To make matters worse, when I was looking into buying the house. That was my biggest priority is getting a very fast internet (as well as a cheap price on buying the house)... So I called around to the local companies and they ended up telling me I could get 25MB speeds. But then after buying the house and calling to setup the speeds, they're like.... "Nope. It's actually 1.5MB there... Sorry for the inconvenience"

    F my life :p

Maybe my only option now then is.... Make another highend PC like my current one. And send it to my brothers home 6 hours away where hes got fiber op, then start remoting into that. Althlough... I suppose building another PC is going to be expensive on its own.

jeez dude you still have 1.5mb you can work with that, looks like you are just overcomplicating a simple problem.
i used to live with 150kb/s and still managed to do everything i needed. although very very slowly.

use a vps for your massplaner stuff and do your youtube uploading overnight on your own pc, simple as that.

    where do you live anyway?

Maybe you're right :p but the 1.5MB is the download, my upload is even slower. Well.. 500KB. And you're right I can upload over night. But another problem there though is I would like to upload more often. I've got a couple different channels and one of them i sometimes upload 2-3 vids per day.

Not to mention I wouldnt mind getting back to mass uploading, which wouldnt be possible at all here. I remember when I used to have a faster internet I had uploaded 50,000 videos in.. I think it was one day, maybe two. And was making some money.

But with just the normal uploading it still seems tricky especially when I'm using massplanner at the same time.

But yeah.. Thats a good start I suppose. Get massplanner on a remote PC. I end up closing it down when Im trying to play an online game
