I just wanted to make this thread because until recently, I didn't realize how important comments(especially REAL looking comments) and ratings are for conversion rates.
So I promote this product on youtube(don't ask what it is) and I usually get about 1 sale per 200 clicks from videos that do not have comments or ratings.
Last year I was pushing the same type of product, but I was using TubeAutomator to get ratings and to post comments. The problem was that I would make my own comment lists for TA to post, and I guess the comments were not realistic enough, so people easily spotted that they were fake. My conversion rates were not too bad though, about 150 clicks to get a sale.
Now I am rating my own videos plus posting some scraped comments with tube automator. Using scraped comments instead of writing my own comments has been a money maker. The results have been awesome.
Right now I am getting 1/60 conversion rates. My average sale commission is $30, so my average earnings per click is a wonderful $0.50! I never thought that was possible on youtube.
Scraping my comments instead of writing my own tripled my conversion rates!
The moral of the story:
-Do rate your own video-Don't worry about mass ratings, just make sure you have 4 stars at all times
-Do comment your own video-a page or two (20-40) of comments looks great, no need to over do it because that looks unrealistic too.
-Do NOT make your own comments- go on youtube and find a video that has comments that would be appropriate and realistic for your video. Copy the url(s) and use tube automator's scaper tool. Mix in some of your own written comments if you want.
-After you done giving yourself some comments with tube automator, change your video settings to only allow comments with approval. Negative comments will destroy conversion rates, don't let that happen!
So, if you advertising on youtube and don't want to look like you are spamming your stuff, make your top priority be looking legit. Your conversion rates will go up.
