Anyone have a sense if it really makes a difference whether or not you use real unique domain names in your profiles vs. link shorteners to point to your domains in terms of accounts getting banned?

They can block your domain completely if you are spamming. I don't do mass spamming but just in case I use 2 link shorteners, so even when they "unhide" one link second shorten link is hiding my real link to site. Don't use bit.lu, that is their service.

You mean you shorten the already shortened link?

    Exactly.
They have ability to see which link is shortened and to block them permanently regardless your shortening. But when you shorten it again, you are safe, at least until they develop more advanced link checking or something.

Running out of shortening services that allow shortening of already shortened links!
