Depends on your target audience. User experience translates into rankings, we know that. But easier to read isn't necessarily better. Some texts need complicated words, complicated phrasing. If an article is targeting a scientific field but it will be written for 5th grade readers, people that read it and expect an article from a higher education writer might leave faster. In the end, it will come to who you're talking to.
