Anyway i see not many people are using the reputation button.

It would be a great idea for those who post downloads with zero descriptions you could all leave them negative reputation, this can be givin on the top right of the post there is an icon if you click this you can give someone good reputation or negative, with a reason, it would be great if everyone could start using this.

It would lead the bad members who post random 2 words etc.. to show red reputation and atleast then we will all see them stand out.

Just my little idea hope you all start using it cause i am.

ya sounds like a good lead to start to follow. It just might start to help clean up some of the stuff in the Forum.

Also remember to give positive on great posts so we can also see top contributors ;0

Not to sound lame, but I don't see a "rep" function. I see only an itrader function, which works only from the buy/sell forum, as far as I can tell.

Again, I don't want to appear lame but I'll chance it.

Well above the Join date theres Permalink to the right of that is scales, if you click that, thats the reputation button, it will ask to approve(for good posts) or disapprove (bad posts) and ask for a reason, dont worry this is anonymous

Thanks Harro. I've never paid attention to how to give someone a rep.

I seem to recall another forum that did away with the rep system due to the rampant abuse by members.

For instance, if someone, especially a newb, posted a simple, legit question they would suffer rude negative rep such as "Give up loser, you'll never make it" or "You'd be better off flippin burgers", etc.

Maybe this system is different, but I truly hope this forum does not suffer the same abuse!

how come some people have a green dot next to their name and some people have a red one? what does that dot signify? i know its a silly question, but i am just curious.

first of all gts6 ill answer your question that dot means online and offline, green is online and red is offline.

And yes the system could be lead to abuse but im sure, we could test the waters so far looks good. And yes it would be a little better if we showed the nicknames. Although i usually leave my nickname in the comment like Great post (HaRRo) i always did that whether it showed or not.

I think that, especially on a blackhat forum, the reputation is given by other things than green bars or post count. This reputation system works for noobs. How many times did someone give reputation to Ruck, despite the fact he contributed a lot? Almost no one i presume. But everyones knows that Ruck is a reputable member here, even before he got his moderator status.
Just my opinion.

How about if all of us "old timers" just rep each other to set ourselves apart from the newbs?

Well, I just learned what it was a couple of days ago and I've been using it too.

The green dot/red dot thing was a mystery to me too ... I always thought those had something to do with itrader or somesuch. It's a weird UX choice.

Quick question: where do the reps go once they've been given?

I have changed my mind. I would go tonight and rep all the great posts made by others in the past. They deserve it. Why did i change my mind?

-Because i saw a strange behavior in a forum where the reputation system was not used.
A noob came misunderstood a post, and completely clueless to whom was he talking, tried to bashed a very reputable member over there. Maybe some reputation in the bar would give him something to think about before launching attacks.

-because if there is no reputation in place, then people who read the forum will treat all opinions almost equally, which is wrong. If in a thread without any reputation system you see 5 opinions that promote a product, and one that does not, then most people will be very prone to believe the 5 guys. But if you see that those 5 guy promoting the product are completely noobs and the guy who is against is a very reputable member, you should start putting questions.

-the forum is growing steadily. Not long ago i was able to read every post made and i knew almost instantly whether a member is reputable or not by remembering his posts made. Now i see a lot of new people, and a lot of new posts and i can not keep up with all of them. I think a rep system should be in place, so that you do not flame reputable members just because you do not know and you did not read their useful posts.

newbie here... i totally agree with you guys implementing this feature...
1 question though, can i start using this now? i've read a lot of useful post here since i got here a couple of hours ago

Great Idea already gave someone some good rep. Hey you give links to free stuff, give reviews of the good bad and ugly software from the Net you are good in my books. Just joined and luving it already.

I'd like to see folks who repeatedly ask the same question in multiple posts get some "Constructive Feedback" too.
