If it is a phrase, than also having the quotes ("") around your phrase intitle is what you should look for.

It is not how difficult the keyword is, but how many people are going for that exact phrase. The thinking is, that almost every SEO in the world knows to put the keyword in the title right? So if a webmaster is going for that keyword, they will put it in their title. Knowing how many people have done this will let you know how many are going for that exact keyword.

    Short answer is NO.....

Really all that really matters is the sites on the first page. Very few searches every get off the first page so if there are 100 sites or 100000 sites with intitle url really makes no difference. Those first 10 sites are all that matters.

Look at the sites at #10 #5 and #1 and ask yourself two questions.

Can I beat any of them?
If I can will the money I make be worth the effort to do so?

If the answer is no to either you move on. If the answer to both is yes then you go for it.

The intitle and inurl are pretty much outdated concepts in my view. The true strength of competition is the 1st page of Google for your selected keyword.

I totally agree with this one. I don't use any of the "allin" search parameters when sizing up the competition.

This is what I've used for awhile and seems to give me a decent idea of how many competitors are SEO savvy. If broad and in quotes are high but this number comes out lower than usual, I can assume that there is not much "savvy" competition if that makes sense.

    intitle:"keyword"inurl:"keyword"inanchor:"keyword"

So tells you how many sites are using keyword in title, in URL/Domain, and in their anchor text links.

Like the other posters have said though, all that matters is top 10, can you beat them and turn an ROI within your budget and timeframe?

    I use allintitle:

I think it gives the bets idea of who is targeting the same keywords.

    allinanchor: is good too.

Traffic Travis is simple and gives you a fairly decent insight into the top Ten results. You could even get away with using the free version.

all in title, is pretty much the same as intitle+inurl

Its just used to see how many webmasters are really trying to target that keyword like pyronaut said.

But you should also look at the top 10-20 sites ranking with no "quotes" or intitle ....
