Say I have a small landing page to generate leads for a product with a phone number. The pages at the site are only 10-15 and I want to dominate my keywords so I create a load of backlinks around 1-5k as the first place position now only has 50 backlinks.

I guess my question is does the site need to have content on order of magnitude with the amount of backlinks? Such as 1k pages for 1k backlinks or something close? What's your experience been?

i dont know if im understanding correctly, but you can have 5k links to one page ... you dont have to have 1 page per backlink..

if it was me and i had a site with 10 pages, i would make each page (other than the landing page) saturated with 1-2 certain keywords or phrases then backlink those with the appropriate anchor text, rinse and repeat for the rest of your pages

Ok yea thats the idea my offshot or other 9 pages are keyword laden that support the main niche. I guess having a lack of indexed pages just will give me a narrow focus on my search terms versus someone who has 300 pages indexed. Does that sound right? Doing my first site atm and will report results once I have some findings in a month or few.

yea sounds like your on the right track .. are you using a cms? (wordpress, joomla, etc) and if so make sure you using a sitemap submitter addon/plugin that will keep your pages updated and automatically submit changes to google.

yea im using wordpress atm but i have shit hosting which will change this weekend so i can add the seo plugins/sitemap creator and other things.

another question. if competition is really low for this keyword and the first place now only has 80 pages indexed with 40 backlinks is it a possibility to build a link pyramid and own the first page of results in the SERPS?

definitely, as an example i recently put a website on the first page of google in the top 5 position for several specific keywords, because the former #1 site was a local competitor and had ~100 backlinks across 10 pages... not much of a challenge there. I would also look into web 2.0 properties and creating some unique content, pointing them to your money site, and then backlinking the hell out of those sites. If your interested in doing an xrumer blast hit me up with a pm, i dont mind helping ya out bro, i will walk you through what needs to be done and any other tips you might need, just take it to a PM and i will give ya my contact details

@Leafgreen Well why use a hammer to destroy a house when you have a crane? It's more of a learning experience per say and my first foray into SEO. So I'm eager to see how it turns out and if I can outrank the competitor in this ultra small niche.

I just didn't know if amount of pages indexed and backlinks both had a role to play in ranking in SERPS or if its purely backlinks?
